The NBA Slam Dunk contest isn't what it used to be and that's disappointing. The 2023 NBA Dunk contest will feature KJ Martin, Mac McClung, Trey Murphy III, and Jericho Sims. While these guys can get up, the NBA needs to find a way to get their stars back into the event. Despite the below-average field, we still need to discuss the odds and make our predictions. KJ Martin is an exciting player that has played well for the Houston Rockets, averaging 11.7 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. Mac McClung made a name for himself in high school with his insane mixtapes. He's now in the G-League. Trey Murphy has played well, averaging 13.1 points and shooting 40.3% from three. Given his dunking ability, he might be the best player in the 2023 NBA Slam Dunk contest. Jericho Sims has seen his role increase for the New York Knicks once Mitchell Robinson went down. Sims has ridiculous bounce and should be able to put on a show for the fans.

As we can see from the NBA Slam Dunk contest odds, books believe that Kenyon Martin Jr. has the best chance to win the award. Given what we've seen him do at the rim, it certainly makes sense why he's favored.
Mac McClung having the second-highest NBA Slam Dunk contest odds is a bit strange to me for multiple different reasons. For one, there's no denying that he's an incredible athlete. However, that hasn't been shown off in his NBA career. Perhaps he still has those insane dunks in his back pocket, but we haven't seen him do those in a very long time. When also factoring in he's in the G-League, I can't imagine the league letting him win this award.
Sims and Murphy are getting disrespected and I think that makes this even better for us. Let's get into my NBA Slam Dunk contest prediction.
NBA Slam Dunk Contest Prediction
Due to Jericho Sims and Trey Murphy III getting odds of +225 and +300, I have to bet on both of them to win the event.
Look, this Dunk Contest might be horrible. At the end of the day, I just want it to be better than last year. However, Martin, Sims, and Murphy can all get up. Due to that, I will certainly be betting on Sims and Murphy to win with a risk of .25u. We would make money if either of them won and outside of KJ Martin, there's no other competition for these two.
I think Murphy wins and he has the worst odds on the board, so I'm definitely jumping on that. Sims also has a great chance as the kid can pretty much get his entire head over the rim when he jumps.
These two should put on a show for us and help us make some money. McClung and Martin will be fun too, but I love Sims and Murphy in this spot.
