ACC Tournament Odds: Duke Has The 7th Longest Odds In The Field

Duke has been abysmal this season. As a result, they sit at +2000 to win the ACC Tournament, those are tied for the 7th best odds in the Conference with Clemson.

The last time Duke was this big an underdog was 1994-95 when they entered the tournament 2-14 in ACC play. This is Duke’s worst in-conference season since 2006-07, when they were 8-8 in conference. Unless Duke can somehow overcome the odds to win the ACC Tournament, they will almost certainly miss out on their first NCAA Tournament since that awful 1994-95 season.

Duke is one of the most talented team’s in the country on paper. Their recruiting class last year, this year’s freshmen, was 3rd in the country. They had more 5-star recruits than anyone else in the country. The talent is there for this team to succeed. They haven’t been able to put it together yet, but that doesn’t mean a run isn’t coming.

Duke may seem down and out now, considering bookies are giving them an implied 4.8% chance to win the ACC Tournament. However, Mike Krzyzewski always has something up his sleeve. There’s a reason Duke hasn’t missed an NCAA tournament in 27 years

Alongside Duke fighting for a spot in the NCAA tournament is North Carolina. The Tar Heels are the third favorite to win the event at +450. This despite the team finishing 6th in ACC and on the NCAA tournament bubble.

There’s a possibility that both sides of the Tobacco Road rivalry won’t be in the NCAA tournament. If that happens, it would be the first time since 1973-74.
