NCAA March Madness Odds: Gonzaga the Overwhelming Title Pick Among Bettors

The Gonzaga men’s basketball team is attempting to pull off a lot of firsts this season. The Bulldogs are trying to win their first ever NCAA National Championship in program history AND be the first undefeated national champion since Indiana University did it in the 1975-1976 season.

With all that history stacked against them, you’d think some bettors would be hesitant to back the Zags. But, it’s been the complete opposite.

Since the end of Round 2, Gonzaga has been by far the most backed pick to with the 2020-2021 NCAA Basketball Tournament.

The top seed in the entire 68-team tournament is yet to be truly challenged in the Big Dance. They easily dispatched of 16th-seeded Norfolk State, 98-55. Then, in Round 2, they pulled out a 16-point win against No. 8 Oklahoma. This weekend’s Sweet 16 opponent, No. 5 Creighton, may be the best team they’ve played all year. Still, that hasn’t stopped bettors from backing the Bulldogs.

Since the end of Monday’s Round 2 games, Gonzaga has been by far the most popular pick to win the NCAA Tournament. A whopping 31.52% of all National Championship futures have come in on the Zags, almost double the second most backed team.

That second most popular bet since Monday has been the Florida State Seminoles after they took care of No. 5 Colorado with relative ease. 15.22% of futures bets in that time span are on FSU.

Somewhat surprisingly, the Seminoles are followed by USC (8.7%), Alabama (7.61%) and Oral Roberts (6.52%). The next No. 1 seed on the list is Baylor, with 5.43% of bets backing them.
