SEC College Basketball Odds: Auburn the Runaway Favorites to Win the SEC

The SEC is always competitive, but it’s usually Kentucky at the top of the conference. That’s not the case this year. Auburn, led by Freshman star Jabari Smith, is the #1 team in the country. As a result, oddsmakers expect them to run away with the conference.

Auburn is given -1900 odds, or an incredibly strong 95% chance to win the SEC. Oddsmakers only see one real potential competitor, and that’s Kentucky at +1200 or an implied 7.7% chance. Despite beating Auburn, Arkansas is considered a longshot to win the conference at +6500 or an implied 1.5% chance.

Auburn is also the second favorite to win the NCAA Tournament at +1000, or an implied 9.1% chance. Only Gonzaga is given better odds at +550. If Auburn were to win it would be their first championship in team history. It would be the SEC’s first title since 2012.

Auburn is looking to win its 4th SEC championship. It comes in an extremely competitive year in the conference.  Kentucky is ranked 5th in the country, Tennessee is 19th, and Arkansas just beat Auburn. The Tigers could be the best team in the country, but it only takes one off night to lose in the conference tournament. As they showed against Arkansas, everyone is susceptible to a bad night.
