Big 12 Tournament Odds: Can Anyone Overtake Favored Jayhawks?

College Basketball Champ Week rolls on and the Big 12 Conference is no exception. After two days of play, we are left with a rather unexpected group of semifinalists still standing in Kansas City. Thursday's Quarterfinal Round featured two extremes as two games resulted in thrilling upsets while the other two were chalky blowouts. Thanks to the upsets, there is still plenty of meat on the bone when it comes to the outright Big 12 Tournament betting odds.

A tournament that began with 9 teams (Oklahoma State was ineligible) has now been whittled down to four semifinalists. The following looks at the updated odds to win the Big 12 Conference Tournament title ahead of Friday night's Semifinal matchups. Quick capsule previews for the two Semifinal matchups are also included.

Big 12 Tournament Update

With Oklahoma State ineligible for postseason play, there was only one First Round game in the Big 12 Tournament this year. 9-seed West Virginia sprung an upset of 8-seed Kansas State to advance. Although this result was a minor upset compared to what would follow in the Quarterfinal Round, it certainly set the table as far as lower seeds having success.

Thursday's action started off with Texas coughing up an 18-point halftime lead in a loss to 5-seed TCU. Top seed Kansas followed by crushing West Virginia before the real shocker of the day took place.

Coming into the Big 12 Tournament, Oklahoma was on the wrong side of the March Madness bubble watch according to most analysts. Well, the 7-seed Sooners gave their resume a huge boost by taking down defending national champion Baylor. Like TCU, Oklahoma rallied from a halftime deficit to earn the victory.

Quarterfinal action concluded on Thursday night with 3-seed Texas Tech destroying Iowa State to leave two favorites and two underdogs left standing in the bracket. The sections below offer a closer look at the odds for each remaining team including how they compare to the pre-tournament betting market.

Big 12 Tournament Betting Odds

Kansas Jayhawks

Odds: -115 (Bet $115 to Win $100)

Prior to the start of the Big 12 Tournament, bettors could find prices up to +260 on Kansas to cut down the nets. Fast-forward all of two days and the 1-seed requires one to lay a -115 price. Given Kansas' dominance of the Big 12 Conference over time, the Jayhawks perhaps get even more respect than they deserve in the college basketball betting market. That being said, the squad Bill Self has assembled this season is really freaking good. Ochai Agbaji is simply the leading scorer and household name on a team that checks all the boxes. Thanks to Oklahoma's upset of Baylor, Kansas' perceived top competition has already been eliminated.

Texas Tech Red Raiders

Odds: +160 (Bet $100 to Win $160)

There were significant questions surrounding Texas Tech coming into this college basketball betting season. After Chris Beard bolted for rival Texas, many felt that a decline from the great successes of recent years was inevitable for the Red Raiders. Mark Adams deserves a ton of credit for ensuring that such prognosticators were dead wrong. After throttling Iowa State in the Quarterfinals, Tech's Big 12 Tournament odds are less than half of the +380 value that could be found on them before play began. In all honesty, one could argue that the gap between the Red Raiders and Kansas is not nearly as large as the betting odds suggest. After all, Tech does sit three spots higher in KenPom's overall efficiency rankings.

TCU Horned Frogs

Odds: +900 (Bet $100 to Win $900)

For what it's worth, TCU actually beat Texas Tech and Kansas in back-to-back games less than two weeks ago. Of course, few could have envisioned a conference championship when the Horned Frogs closed the regular season with an ugly loss to West Virginia. However, writing off Jamie Dixon's squad despite their longshot Big 12 Tournament odds could prove to be a grave mistake. The comeback victory over Texas in yesterday's Quarterfinal game was the kind of adrenaline-inducing victory that often sparks teams on prolonged tournament runs. Before the conference tournament began, TCU's odds to cut down the nets were 20-1.

Oklahoma Sooners

Odds: +900 (Bet $100 to Win $900)

Was Oklahoma's win over Baylor yesterday enough to solidify their spot in the NCAA Tournament field? Only the selection committee truly knows this answer. The Sooners can remove all doubt by springing another upset over Texas Tech to reach the Big 12 Tournament title game. Head coach Porter Moser certainly knows a thing or two about the magic of March after his impressive tenure at Loyola (Chicago). The Big 12 Tournament odds on Oklahoma have seen the greatest move of any remaining team. Prior to play commencing, the Sooners were available at 40-1 to win the championship.
