Top 5 Sleeper Teams
1. Miami Hurricanes
Miami went bonkers last year. Why not this year? Miami's roster consists of two upperclassmen, Jordan Miller and Isaiah Wong. Then they've got an incredible transfer guard in Nijel Pack and are getting terrific minutes out of Norchad Omier.
The offense is elite, scoring 36.8% from three and 54.9% from inside the arc. They're also hitting over 77% from the foul line. That's huge in tournament play.
The defense could be better. But having experience and reliable guards is a huge plus.
2. Saint Mary's Gaels
Saint Mary's stopped getting love after a brutal defeat to Gonzaga in the WCC. But this team is still elite and can do some big things in the NCAA Tournament.
The Gaels have hit 36.7% from downtown and rarely give the ball way on offense. They're also holding teams to 21.8% offensive rebounds and are allowing teams to shoot just 32.8% from deep and 45.6% from inside the arc.
The Gaels are playing like a top-three seed. Let's respect them a bit more. They can do damage.
3. UConn Huskies
UConn is good enough to be a top seed in college basketball. Instead, they're not even a No. 1 or No. 2 seed in the bracket.
This team beat Alabama on a neutral court. Did everyone forget? The Huskies have a balanced team. They're one of the most efficient teams in college basketball.
UConn has earned over 39% of offensive rebounds. They've also dominated defensively, holding teams to 30% from three and 45.8% from inside the arc.
4. Oral Roberts Golden Eagles
Oral Roberts has Max Abamas. That's all you need to know. Most of you remember when he and Oral Roberts knocked off Ohio State in the first round of the NCAA Tournament and made a huge run.
He can undoubtedly help Oral Roberts do it again. This team earned 30 wins and a Summit League Championship this year.
5. Illinois Fighting Illini
The Illinois Fighting Illini have been so inconsistent this year. But don't rule out this group. The defense has held teams to 45.3% from inside the arc and shot 55.3% from inside on the offensive end.
If they can control the inside against teams, they'll be a problem this year. The offense has shot poorly from downtown, but they have guys who can get hot.
