Almost as big of a story as the fight itself it the decision to stage the event in Saudi Arabia, a nation more well-known for human-rights violations than the sweet science.
It's clear what both sides get from the arrangement. Saudi Arabia get the prestige of hosting the most important fight of the year and it will no doubt go someway to launder the states reputation. For Anthony Joshua's team it's likely that the promise of huge wealth has drawn them in, despite his promoter Eddie Hearn claims it's to showcase the sport in a new region.
AJ is rumored to be taking home £70m for the fight with the current champ Andy Ruiz only taking a paltry £9m. A tiny figure that was set in the rematch clause of the original fight. Ruiz has been vocal on social media that nothing is signed and he won't fight in the Middle East, or indeed London. This is most likely a ploy by Ruiz to get more money than originally agreed upon. AJ's team would be able to take him to court but it could take a long period of time, something they can't afford in their quest to regain the belts. With this in mind it's likely they'll offer Ruiz a more generous split, which would appease all parties.
There won't be any questions over how seriously AJ is preparing for this fight with all of his focus on reclaiming his belts, a focus that was said to be missing before his MSG debut. This fight will continue to dominate column inches, with lots of unanswered questions, ranging from the politics of taking the fight to Saudi Arabia, the result of the rematch and indeed, whether it will even take place at all.
