On Saturday night, Vasiliy Lomachenko and Teofimo Lopez will meet in the ring at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas with the WBA, IBF, WBO and The Ring lightweight titles on the line.

Lomachenko is considered, by many, to be the best pound-for-pound fighter in the sport. Meanwhile, at just 23 years old, Lopez is regarded as one of the biggest challengers to Lomachenko’s dominance.

Lomachenko only has 15 professional fights, but he’s no rookie in the ring. As an amateur boxer, he went 396-1 in 3971 fights. Yes, you read that correctly. He won two Olympic gold medals (2008 and 2012) and two World Championships.

Lomachenko is known for his great footwork, fast hands and ability to finish a fight. 10 of his 14 wins have come by knockout.

Lomachenko’s only professional loss came in his second bout via split decision to Orlando Salido for the vacant WBO featherweight title.

Teofimo Lopez

Despite being nine years younger than Lomachenko, Lopez has the same number of professional fights under his belt (15).

The 23-year old has never lost a professional bout and is coming in off an impressive TKO victory over Richard Commey in December, winning the IBF title.

12 of his 15 professional wins have come by KO or TKO and he is seen as one of the best up-and-coming fighters in the world. A win Saturday night would certainly speed up his ascent to stardom.

Despite his potential and undefeated record, Lopez comes into Saturday’s megafight as an overwhelming underdog.

As of Saturday afternoon, Lopez’s best odds sit at +350 to upset Lomachenko. Those odds imply just a 22.2% chance he stays undefeated.

Despite the odds saying otherwise, bettors haven’t been scared of betting the longshot. 43.13% of moneyline bets have been on the 23-year old from Brooklyn.
