UFC Fight Night Islam Makhachev vs. Bobby Green: Betting Data, Odds, and Preview

  • When: February 26, 7:00 PM EDT
  • Where: UFC Apex, Las Vegas, NV

The UFC Apex will play host for the second week in a row, and the main event will be different than originally scheduled once again as well. Originally scheduled against #3 ranked Beneil Dariush, Islam Makhachev (#4) will now face Bobby Green who will be stepping in on just 10 days' notice due to an ankle injury suffered by Dariush.

Does the unranked Green have any kind of chance against a fighter in Makhachev who comes into Saturday on a nine-fight win streak? Let’s take a closer look.

Islam Makhachev (21-1-0)

Slowly but surely, Makhachev is turning into the most feared man in the lightweight division with none of the top-10 guys wanting a fight against the Russian. Fighting out of the Khabib camp, formerly trained by Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov and now Javier Mendez, Makhachev is a Sambo-style fighter who has quickly risen to be one of the most elite in the world.

Coming into Saturday with three-straight submission victories, Makhachev as-expected dominates this matchup on paper when it comes to ground games. With a takedown average of 3.37 (vs. 1.36) and submission average of 1.26 (vs. .3) per 15 minutes, Green will be doing everything in his power to keep this one upright.

Bobby Green (29-12-1)

In what will be one of the fastest turnarounds in UFC history, Green will be entering the octagon for the second time in two weeks having just beaten Nasrat Haqparast at UFC 271 on February 12th. The (decision) win marked his second in a row and a win on Saturday would be by far the biggest of his career.

With just one submission victory in the UFC (2013), Green tends to rely on his striking ability despite being a blue belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. As far as his matchup vs. Makhachev, Green’s 5.93 strikes landed per minute is nearly triple that of his opponent on Saturday.

Islam Makhachev vs Bobby Green Odds

These odds re-opened a few days ago, with Makhachev the -450 favorite and Green coming at around +350 across the board. As of Wednesday, the action has been extremely lopsided with Makhachev reaching as high as -900 (DraftKings). Those looking to back the favorite should head to Caesars (-800), while those getting behind Green Draftkings (+600).

Islam Makhachev vs Bobby Green Odds & Public Betting Data

According to Oddshark, Green is starting to see some love at these heavily slanted odds, with 65% of the consensus on the underdog’s side. As this fight get’s closer, in what will be a primetime Saturday spot with not much to wager on outside of basketball, I expect more money to come in on Green with the anticipated payout too much to pass up.
