Tyson Fury vs Dillian Whyte Odds: Oddsmakers Give 'The Gypsy King' 85% Chance of Winning Title Fight

After prolonged negotiations, we finally have an official next opponent for reigning Heavyweight Champion, Tyson Fury. For the first time since 2018, the current WBC Champion will fight in his home country of England. Fury will step into the ring with fellow Brit Dillian Whyte and defend his belt on April 23rd at Wembley Stadium. Whyte also lays claim to the WBC Interim Heavyweight Championship coming into this unification bout. Only one fighter will leave the ring as the undisputed champ.

The April fight will be Fury's first in just over six months. Given just how dominant 'The Gypsy King' was when we last saw him in October of last year, it comes as no surprise that the boxing betting odds have him priced as a massive favorite for this upcoming fight.

Tyson Fury Career Overview

Dillian Whyte will be trying to do what no man has done before which is beat Fury. The WBC Heavyweight Champion is a perfect 31-0-1 in his professional boxing career. On top of that, a whopping 70.9% of his career victories have come by way of knockout. This includes his most recent trilogy fight against Deontay Wilder. Fury dominated the American heavyweight for the second time in a row and laid to rest any claims that Wilder "slipped" in the middle of their three fights.

Pretty much the only thing that has slowed Fury down during his outstanding career was his own mental health. After picking up a unanimous decision win over Wladimir Klitschko in 2015, Fury took over two and a half years off to prioritize his own well-being. As he would detail in interviews later on, he struggled with severe depression, thoughts of suicide and substance abuse.

The challenges that the 33-year-old Fury has had to overcome in his personal life make his return to the sport and current championship reign all the more impressive. At 278 pounds for his last fight, Fury may not look like a prototypical modern-day boxer. Yet, 'The Gypsy King' has proven that a chiseled frame and six-pack abs are irrelevant when it comes to in-ring quickness and technical savvy.

Dillian Whyte Career Overview

While Dillian Whyte does not have quite the level of professional boxing betting record as Tyson Fury, he isn't far off. A technical knockout win over Alexander Povetkin in March of 2021 ran Whyte's career record to 28-2. That result avenged a TKO loss to Povetkin suffered in August of the previous year. In total, 19 of Whyte's 28 professional victories have come by way of knockout.

The win over Povetkin enabled Whyte to regain the WBC Interim Heavyweight Championship that he lost to him in 2020. 'The Body Snatcher' first claimed this title belt by winning via unanimous decision against Oscar Rivas back in July of 2019. Despite holding a title, the 33-year-old Whyte still finds himself as a massive boxing betting underdog for April's unification bout.

Unlike Fury, whose last five fights have all come in the United States, Whyte has largely been fighting in the U.K. right along. Six of his last eight fights overall have been staged in England. However, the last time Whyte fought in his homeland was when he got KO'd by Povetkin. The rematch that went his way took place in Gibraltar.

End of the Road for 'The Gypsy King'?

The newly added layer of intrigue for this Tyson Fury vs. Dillian Whyte title fight is that it could be the former's last. Fury's comments at a promotional news conference earlier this week certainly seemed to suggest that this will be the final fight of his career.

Suddenly, all of the match-makers have to put their hypothetical scenarios on hold. Fury certainly can't fight the winner of the Anthony Joshua-Oleksandr Usyk rematch if he is floating around on a yacht and pursuing other ways to invest his career earnings.

While no one can possibly blame Fury for protecting his health, it will certainly be sad to see him exit the sport sooner than anticipated. Simply put, boxing as a whole is better with 'The Gypsy King' in the mix.
