UFC 272 Betting Preview: Masvidal vs Covington Odds
Jorge Masvidal vs Colby Covington
The fact that there is not a single championship bout on the UFC 272 betting card is a clear nod at just how big of a draw this main event is. Jorge Masvidal and Colby Covington are both established veterans of the Welterweight Division. Furthermore, each has also tried to wrestle the title from Kamaru Usman twice. Masvidal and Covington are a combined 0-4 against the reigning welterweight champ.
Of course, the underlying narrative to Saturday's main event is the fact that Masvidal and Covington are former friends and training partners. Since going their separate ways, the two have developed one of the most heated rivalries in the sport. Having both come up short in their pursuit of UFC gold, validation will be at stake for both fighters in this main event bout.
From the standpoint of the Welterweight Division, a victory at UFC 272 is critical for both men if they hope to remain in the title picture. At age 37, many are wondering just how much longer Masvidal can remain a fixture at the top of the division. His last victory came over Nate Diaz all the way back in 2019. Masvidal's last two fights were his two losses to Usman.
Jorge Masvidal vs Colby Covington Odds
Fighter | Moneyline | ML Implied Probability | Total Rounds | Fight to Go the Distance | Fighter's Favored Method of Victory |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Jorge Masvidal | +250 | 28.6% | O 4.5 (-160) | Yes (-150) | KO/TKO or DQ (+400) |
Colby Covington | -305 | 75.3% | U 4.5 (+130) | No (+110) | Decision (-125) |
As seen in the table above, current Masvidal vs. Covington odds suggest that the man known as 'Chaos' will get the job done. Like Masvidal, Covington has not had his hand raised in well over a year's time. One of the biggest heels in the sport last emerged from The Octagon victorious in September of 2020 when he TKO'd Tyron Woodley.
When it comes to the predicted method of victory, the Masvidal vs. Covington odds favor the No. 1 Welterweight contender via decision/technical decision. This prop currently carries a -125 price.

Rafael Dos Anjos vs Rafael Moicano
The co-main event of the UFC 272 betting card features a pair of ranked Brazilians in the Catchweight division. Sixth-ranked Rafael dos Anjos is shaping up as a moderate favorite over his opponent, 11th-ranked Renato Moicano.
Rafael Dos Anjos vs Rafael Moicano Odds
Fighter | Moneyline | ML Implied Probability |
---|---|---|
Rafael dos Anjos | -165 | 62.3% |
Renato Moicano | +145 | 40.8% |
37-year-old dos Anjos has been around for what feels like forever. Yet, even in what are presumably the latter stages of his career, he is still achieving some success. His last fight came all the way back in November of 2020 and saw him earn a split decision win over Paul Felder. That snapped a streak in which dos Anjos had lost four of five bouts. If the former Lightweight Champion has one last title push in him, winning on Saturday as a UFC betting favorite is crucial to setting the ball in motion.
Stepping in on all four days' notice as a replacement for Islam Makhachev, Moicano is clearly the younger fighter in this bout at age 32. He will also have a three-inch height advantage and a slight two-inch reach advantage over dos Anjos. Bettors will have to take their pick between extended rest and staying in prime fighting shape for this bout. Moicano's last fight came within the 2022 calendar year. He picked up a submission win at UFC 271 on February 12th, his third such victory in his last four fights. All three submissions came via the rear-naked choke.
Edson Barboza vs Bryce Mitchell
The UFC odds favor the young gun over the longstanding veteran in this Flyweight Division bout. Bryce Mitchell gets the nod as a modest choice to knock off Edson Barboza at UFC 272.
Edson Barboza vs Bryce Mitchell Odds
Fighter | Moneyline | ML Implied Probability | Total Rounds | Fight to Go the Distance | Fighter's Favored Method of Victory |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Edson Barboza | +145 | 40.8% | O 2.5 (-115) | Yes (+110) | KO/TKO or DQ (+330) |
Bryce Mitchell | -165 | 62.3% | U 2.5 (-115) | No (-150) | Submission (+200) |
While Barboza managed to win one of his two fights last year, the 36-year-old veteran has lost four of his last six encounters overall. This includes a KO/TKO defeat to Giga Chikadze in his most recent bout last August.
As for Mitchell, the 27-year-old is a perfect 5-0 since joining the UFC ranks. However, his last bout came all the way back in October of 2020. 'Thug Nasty' will cede five inches of reach to Barboza in Saturday's fight.
Kevin Holland vs Alex Oliveira
14th-ranked welterweight Kevin Holland is shaping up as the biggest UFC betting favorite on Saturday's main card as he prepares to take on Alex Oliveira.
Kevin Holland vs Alex Oliveira Odds
Fighter | Moneyline | ML Implied Probability | Total Rounds | Fight to Go the Distance | Fighter's Favored Method of Victory |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Kevin Holland | -335 | 77.0% | O 1.5 (-165) | Yes (+130) | KO/TKO or DQ (+110) |
Alex Oliveira | +260 | 27.8% | U 1.5 (+135) | No (-175) | Decision (+500) |
With a record of 0-2-1 in his last three bouts, Saturday will provide Holland with an opportunity to get back on track. The finish to his last fight was somewhat controversial as it was deemed No Contest due to an accidental clash of heads. The contact left Holland woozy and enabled Kyle Daukus to assume control. Prior to that August fight, Holland lost his previous two fights in 2021 by unanimous decision.
'Cowboy' Oliveira will also be seeking to get back on track at UFC 272. The 34-year-old lost twice last year and has now dropped six of his last eight fights overall. It figures to be an uphill climb as Oliveira will be giving up four inches of height and nearly five inches of reach to Holland.
Serghei Spivac vs Greg Hardy
Former NFL defensive lineman Greg Hardy returns to The Octagon for the first time since July of last year this weekend when he collides with Moldovan's Serghei Spivac.
Sergheu Spivac vs Greg Hardy Odds
Fighter | Moneyline | Total Rounds | ML Implied Probability | Fight to Go the Distance | Fighter's Favored Method of Victory |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Sergey Spivak | -210 | O 1.5 (-150) | 67.7% | Yes (+165) | Decision (+250) |
Greg Hardy | +185 | U 1.5 (+120) | 35.1% | No (-225) | KO/TKO or DQ (+300) |
Like many other fighters, Spivac has had a tougher go of things since joining the UFC. After losing two of his first three fights under the promotion, he did manage to string together a three-fight winning streak. That ended last September when he was knocked out almost instantaneously by Tom Aspinall. Current UFC odds of Spivac returning the KO/TKO favor to Hardy on Saturday are +275.
Speaking of Hardy, the honeymoon in The Octagon appears to have passed him by. The former Dallas Cowboys pass-rusher has lost two straight bouts coming in and three of his last five overall. Hardy failed to see the finish in each of his last two contests. Marcin Tybura earned a TKO victory in December of 2020. Hardy then succumbed to one of the UFC's brightest young stars in Tai Tuivasa last August. That finish came at 1:07 of the very first round.
