Currently the #3 pound for pound fighter in the entire UFC, it’s been a long, long time since Volkanovsi has taken an L. Entering the UFC in 2016, the Australian has made light work of the featherweight division, ascending to the title in 2019 before defending it three times since.
Relying on a good mix of striking and grappling, Volkanovski comes into this fight with a significant strike landed per minute clip of 6.42, and an accuracy of 58.53%. His grappling is also elite, with a takedown average of 1.77 per 15 minutes
Chan Sung Jung (17-6-0)
The Korean Zombie has finally arrived at his second chance at a featherweight belt, losing the first in 2013 to then-champion Jose Aldo by TKO in the 4th round. Having to serve his South Korean military duty following that fight, Jung returned in 2017 and has seen mixed results since. Winning four of six since Sung last beat Dan Ige in June (decision) to get this opportunity, somewhat controversially as he is still just the #4 contender.
Entering this fight, Sung Jung does have the edge on the ground statistically, as he is averaging .72 submissions per 15 minutes vs. just .28 from Vokanovski.
