A pair of undefeated fighters in Shakur Stevenson (-650) and Oscar Valdez (+450) will go at it Saturday night in Las Vegas for a super featherweight title unification bout. A top 10 fighter in most pound-for-pound rankings, Stevenson is the heavy favorite in this bout for good reason and is widely considered the future of the sport at just 24 years of age.

His challenger, however, Valdez has incredible power for the weight class with more than 75% of his wins ending via knockout. Does the massive underdog have what it takes to pull up the massive upset? Let’s take a closer look at both fighters and see where the money is flowing.

Oscar Valdez (30-0-0, 23 KOs)

The current WBC titleholder earned his belt just over a year ago via a 10th-round KO of Miguel Berchelt in February 2021. Fighting out of Nogales, Mexico Valdez is a veteran of the sport at 31 years old, with a long list of downed opponents since turning pro in 2012.

Winning the WBO featherweight belt in April 2016, Valdez successfully defended it seven times before changing weight classes in late 2019 to super-featherweight. While he’s worth the underdog in this fight, many who follow the sport wonder if he’s the one carrying the value with his experience and power to end this fight at a moment’s notice.

Shakur Stevenson (17-0, 9 KOs)

Currently in possession of the WBO belt and widely considered a piece of the future of boxing, Stevenson is one of the cleanest fighters in the world when it comes to his skill and agility. What he lacks in power he more than makes up for with accuracy and athleticness.

Winning an Olympic Silver at just 18 years old in the 2016 games at bantamweight, Stevenson turned pro shortly thereafter and has been on an absolute tear. Also the current holder of the IBF Intern-Contentiental, WBC Continental Americas, and WBO featherweight title, Stevenson will be a name boxing fans hear for a long time.

Shakur Stevenson vs. Oscar Valdez Odds

When these odds opened up in February, Stevenson opened as a -525 favorite while Valdez opened as a +390 underdog. While Steven at one point crossed over -700, as fight night approaches he’s largely settled in across the board at -650.

As the fight gets closer, I do expect to see some buyback on the veteran Valdez, as people begin including the heavy underdog in parlays and see a more experienced, also undefeated fighter, having some value.
