Jermell Charlo vs. Brian Carlos Castano Odds: Oddsmakers Give Charlo a 63% Chance To Win

  • When: Mat 14, 2022, 9 p.m. ET / 6 p.m. PT
  • Where: Dignity Health Sports Park, Carson, California

In a fight that will be a rematch from a July 17th draw, the first of Jermell Charlo’s career, Charlo and Brian Carlos Castaño will go at it once again. As it was the last time, the WBA (Super), WBC, IBF, and The Ring light middleweight titles will be on the line for Charlo to lose, while Castaño enters the fight holding the WBO light-middleweight title.

In addition to the fighters, many eyes will also be on the judges in this rematch, as controversy surrounded the first fight with one judge’s 117-111 scorecard in favor of Charlo. With the rematch officially set following a delay (March 19th) due to a Castaño bicep tear in February, we are all set for this Saturday in California.

Let’s take a closer look.

Jermell Charlo (34-1-1, 18 KOs)

A long-time fixture in the middleweight ranks, Charlo has held the WBC belt for six years (May 2016), briefly losing it to Tony Harrison in 2018 in a unanimous decision loss. One year later he beat Harrison by TKO, getting the belt back and holding it since.

Standing at 5’9”, Charlo will have a noticeable size advantage in this fight vs. a fighter in Castaño who stands just 5’6” tall. His reach advantage, however, is where he should really be able to excel, with a 7” edge on the shorter Castaño.

Brian Carlos Castaño (17-0-2, 12 KOs)

Despite his smaller stature, there is a reason Castaño has let to lose his zero, with 12 of his 17 wins coming by way of knockout. Turning professional in 2012, Castaño eight of Castaño’s first nine wins came via TKO, as he packs one of the hardest punches in the weight class.

In February 2021, Castaño won the WBO belt, beating Patrix Teixeira by a unanimous decision in a fight he dominated from start to finish. The relatively unknown fighter of the two, Castaño will be fighting in the biggest bout of his career Saturday when he steps into the ring to face Charlo.
