Showtime PPV will host one of the biggest nights of boxing this spring, as middleweights Erislandy Lara and Spike O’Sullivan in the co-main lead the way for Gervonta Davis vs. Rolando Romero in the main event. With the WBA lightweight belt and an undefeated record on the line, which fighter has the edge, and where are the odds headed for Saturday’s showdown in Brooklyn?

Let’s take a closer look at the Gervonta Davis vs. Rolando Romero fight.

Gervonta Davis (26-0, 24 KOs)

One of the biggest names in the sport fighting under Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s Mayweather Promotions, “Tank” Davis has finished 92% of his fights via TKO/KO and is one of the most talented boxers actively fighting. The last time we saw him inside the ring was just the second decision victory of his career, outlasting Isaac Cruz in Los Angeles, CA to retain the WBA lightweight belt.

With 108 rounds inside the ring since turning professional in 2013, Davis has more than double that of his opponent on Saturday, despite being less than a year older. Unfortunately as known for his issues outside the ring than his dominance inside of it, this fight marks yet another he enters with legal issues pending which are a storyline to consider as fight night approaches.

Rolando Romero (14-0, 12 KOs)

Also with just two of his fights going the distance since turning professional, Romero has heavy hands and if caught clean, the ability to put anyone's lights out. Turning professional in 2016 at just 20 years old, Romero lacks the experience of Davis but still has quality wins over Anthony Yigit and Jackson Martinez.

Looking back over his previous two fights, Romero won both in the seventh round via TKO, something to consider when handicapping this matchup between two TKO/KO specialists. An orthodox fighter (compared to Davis’ southpaw), many believe that Romero’s style and 2.5” height advantage could cause problems for Davis; who also could be overlooking the lesser-known and respected fighter.

Gervonta Davis vs Rolando Romero Odds

Since odds opened for this fight a few months back with Davis listed as a -1110 favorite and Romero a +650 underdog, the market has mostly agreed. As of Thursday, Davis has shrunk to a -1000 favorite, while Romero has followed suit landing at +650.

As far as total rounds are concerned, the total has been set at 6.5 for what will be a 12-round fight should it go the distance. It is worth noting that the Under is currently juiced to -120, while Over bettors can get an even money +100. For those convinced the fight will go to the judge’s scorecard, ‘To Go the Distance’ is priced at +350 while the no is -550.
