A former M-1 Global Heavyweight champion, Volkov has had an up and down career in the UFC since joining in 2016, failing to string together three straight wins since 2018. The last time we saw him in the octagon was a tough go of things for the Brown belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, losing to Tom Aspinall in the first round via submission.
For Volkov, staying off the ground will be a welcomed sight in this fight, as he holds slight edges in striking. As of Saturday, Volkov holds the edge in significant strikes landed per minute at 4.83 (vs. 2.8), as well as accuracy at 57% (vs. 46%).
Jairzinho Rozenstruik (12-3-0)
Like Volkov, Rozenstruik also comes into this bout in desperate need to get back to his winning ways, the loser of three of his last five fights, Rozenstruik has alternated wins and losses since losing his “0” to Francis Ngannou via KO in the first round at UFC 249 in May 2020.
It is worth noting that Rozenstruik’s losses have all come against killers, with Ciryl Gane and Curtis Blaydes being his two other losses; both via unanimous decision. While this fight likely stays on the feet between two fighters who love to stand and throw, Rozenstruik does hold the edge in takedown defense at 75% (vs. 71%).
