We head to Singapore for UFC 275 this weekend as the company makes it long-awaited debut in the South East Asia country. The only active women’s fighter to hold victories over four current or former UFC champions, Shevchenko has been atop the women’s flyweight division since beating Joanna Jędrzejczyk at UFC 231 in December 2018. In the six defenses since, four have ended via TKO/KO, including her previous fights over Jessica Andrade and Lauren Murphy.

Coming into this fight vs. Santos, Shevchenko will face arguably her toughest test to date, as she will be matched in both striking and grappling metrics.

Taila Santos (19-1)

Santos joined the UFC in 2018 via Dana White’s Contender Series, losing her first (and only) fight in the following fight; a split decision loss to Mara Romero Borella. Since then, Santos has rattled off four straight wins, including a first-round submission (rear-naked choke) win over Joanne Wood in November that set up this title opportunity. 

A Blue belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Santos will likely look to take this one to the ground early and often against a striker-first fighter in Shevchenko. Whether she’ll be able to do so will be a different story, as Shevchenko’s takedown defense is hovering just under 80%. If she is able to get her there, Santos holds a big edge in submission average at 1.13 (vs. 34) per 15 minutes inside the octagon.
