Another great night of fights is on deck for Saturday at the UFC Apex, as a pair of lightweights Arman Tsarukyan and Mateusz Gamrot will go at it in the main event. Before the main card gets underway, however, two light heavyweights in Carlos Ulberg and Tafon Nchukwi will finish out the preliminary card (ESPN2), as both fighters try to find footing with the company being recent additions to the roster.

Carlos Ulberg (6-1-0)

Joining the UFC in early 2021 following an appearance on Dana White’s Contender Series, Ulberg is 1-1 in the UFC with his first win coming his last time in the octagon; a February decision win over Fabio Cherant. A professional kickboxer prior to starting MMA, Ulberg will step into the octagon Saturday with a noticeable size advantage over his opponent standing 6’4”.

Despite having a limited sample size, Ulberg has the advantage in this fight when it comes to striking volume, with a significant strike landed per minute clip of 8.76. His takedown accuracy is also 100%, scoring one in his past fight. 

Tafon Nchukwi (6-2-0)

2-2 in his UFC career since joining in December 2020, this is a critical fight for Nchukwi who will enter the octagon Saturday having lost two of his past three. The last time we saw him fight was a second-round KO via a vicious flying knee, something only time will tell how he responds to. 

As for his metrics, Nchukwi holds no edges in key metrics, though is close in his takedown average of .96 (vs. 1.18), and has twice the amount of fight experience inside the UFC. With his last win inside the distance coming in 2020, prior to joining the UFC, Nchukwi needs a statement win here if he wants to join a main card in the future.

These odds opened with Ulberg listed as a -140 favorite (Nchukwi +120), but have since come back closer to even as fight night approaches in Vegas. As of Wednesday, DraftKings (-110) has the best number posted for Ulberg while Nchukwi backers would be best suited to head over to Caesars (+100).
