It will be a historic night at UFC 276 as two belts will be on the line as Alexander Volkanovski defends his featherweight belt against Max Holloway, and Israel Adesanya defends his middleweight belt vs. Jared Cannonier in the co-main and main event. Before those fights even get underway, however, there is one great fight after another starting with the early preliminary card on ESPN+.
With no shortage of action incoming, today we focus on the main event of the evening.
Israel Adesanya (22-1-0)
Currently the #3 pound-for-pound fighter on the planet, Izzy steps into the octagon Saturday night having yet to lose in the middleweight division. His sole loss, a March 2021 decision vs. Jan Blachowicz, came at light heavyweight as he tried to go up a division to become a champion at two separate weight classes. Used to decisions, three of Izzy’s last four title defenses came via decision, with his one KO/TKO coming vs. Paulo Costa at UFC 253.
Facing Cannonier in this fight, Adesanya has a slight edge in submission average per 15 minutes at .21 vs. 0 but is otherwise within decimals across the board in other metrics. He will have a noticeable size advantage, standing 5” taller with a 3” reach advantage.
Jared Cannonier (15-5-0)
Joining the UFC in January 2015, Cannonier originally came on at light heavyweight after a successful stint in the Alaska Fighting Championship at heavyweight. Losing three of five at light heavyweight, Cannonier made the switch to middleweight in November 2018, immediately winning and grabbing a Performance of the Night bonus in the process. Since then, Cannonier has ascended the middleweight ranks, winning four of his next five to set up his first shot at a title.
As for Cannonier’s metrics, for being such a sizeable underdog, he does hold his own in striking, slightly lower (.08) in significant strikes landed per minute and slightly higher than 1.28% in striking accuracy. With a takedown accuracy of 50% (vs. 0), Cannonier could look to take this one to the ground early against the faster Adesanya.
Israel Adesanya vs Jared Cannonier Odds

Just over a week out, Adesanya has inflated even higher, with his best price currently at FanDuel (-335). Underdog backers would be best suited to head to DraftKings, where they can get Cannonier at +300.
