UFC International Fight Week is here which means there are events all throughout the week leading up to Saturday’s UFC 276 card. Everything earlier in the week is merely building up to the main card of 276, where there are a pair of belts on the line at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, NV. In the co-main event, a featherweight trilogy concludes as Max Holloway looks to regain his title as the challenger against Alexander Volkanovski. And in the main event, Israel Adesanya makes his sixth title defense at middleweight against Jared Cannonier.

Let’s dive into the odds for the main event in addition to each fighter’s recent history and tendencies.

ISRAEL ADESANYA (22-1-0)

Stylebender first claimed the middleweight strap back in April of 2019, and he hasn’t looked back since. He’s won convincingly in five title defenses, including his most recent fight against Robert Whittaker. Adesanya bested the challenger for the second time in his career in a fight where he outstruck Whittaker 79-59 over five rounds.

The New Zealand-born brawler is one of the most technical fighters in the promotion and his game plan revolves around being patient and picking you apart on the feet. Adesanya averages 3.84 significant strikes per minute and lands at a 49% success rate while absorbing just 2.56 strikes per minute. He strongly prefers to keep the fight vertical, but Stylebender boasts a purple belt in BJJ for any grappling exchanges.

JARED CANNONIER (15-5-0)

The challenger has won two straight fights and has had his hand raised five out of the last six times that he stepped into the cage. The lone loss was at the hands of Robert Whittaker in October of 2020, a unanimous decision that went the wrong way for Cannonier. The Killa Gorilla bounced back with a win over Kelvin Gastelum and dominated Derek Brunson in his most recent bout. Cannonier earned a knockout in the second round in a fight where he outstruck Brunson 55-43 throughout the contest.

Cannonier’s also a purple belt in BJJ, but similar to Adesanya, he prefers to keep the fight on upright. He’s averaging just 0.23 takedowns per 15 minutes and landing at a 50% success rate. Cannonier lands 3.76 significant strikes per minute while absorbing 3.29 strikes per minute.
