Sean Strickland vs. Alex Pereira Prediction
SEAN STRICKLAND (25-3-0)
If things go accordingly tonight, Strickland could be the next in line for a title shot in the middleweight division. He comes into this fight as the fourth-ranked challenger, with Israel Adesanya beating two of the three fighters in front of him. The third is Jared Cannonier, who will face tonight in the main event. But, Strickland needs to focus on tonight’s fight and take care of business there first. The American-born brawler has been running through the division, recording six straight wins in the octagon. Most recently, he bested Jack Hermansson in a five-round, split-decision victory.
Strickland comes into this bout averaging 5.53 significant strikes per minute while absorbing 3.94. He’s a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, averaging 1.16 takedowns per 15 minutes and he’s landing takedowns 61% of the time. As for his defense, he’s shutting down 85% of opposing takedown attempts.Â
ALEX PEREIRA (5-1-0)
34-year-old Pereira will make the UFC walk for just the third time in his career tonight. He’s 2-0 in those bouts, including a unanimous decision victory over Bruno Silva in March of this year. Silva landed a pair of takedowns, but Pereira outstruck him 108-59 and picked up his second consecutive win.Â
Pereira’s a black belt in kickboxing and averages 5.86 significant strikes per minute. He’s absorbing just 3.05 strikes per minute while defending 73% of opposing takedowns. The Brazilian-native has yet to shoot a takedown in the UFC and considering he’s a kickboxer, he’s likely okay with that.Â
