For the second time in a year, the two best heavyweights in the world will go at it once again as Anthony Joshua gets his rematch against Oleksandr Usyk. This time, Joshua will be looking to regain the unified belts that Usyk took from him in September 2020, a 12-round unanimous decision loss at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London.

This time, Joshua is the slight underdog, as the former champ was beaten in decisive fashion last time by the Ukrainian. Let's take a closer look at how things are shaping up for the rematch and where the money is flowing.

Anthony Joshua vs. Oleksandr Usyk Preview

Anthony Joshua (24-2-0, 22 KOs)

Joshua has long been amongst the class of English boxing as the former Olympic gold medalist cruised through his first 20 professional fights knocking out all 20. Beating Joseph Parker for his 21st win, Joshua picked up his WBO heavyweight title, keeping it until a 2019 loss to Anthony Ruiz, the first of his career.

Just six months later, however, Joshua regained the belt (as well as the WBA Super, IBF, and IBO titles) from Ruiz, defending them all for one fight vs. Kubrat Pulev before September’s loss to Usyk.

Oleksandr Usyk (19-0-0, 13 KOs)

A former cruiserweight, Usyk moved up to heavyweight in October 2020, taking the WBO Inter-Continential heavyweight title away from Derek Chisora before his September meeting with Joshua. Beating Joshua in a thorough fashion the first time around came not just as a surprise because of pedigree, but Joshua also stands nearly 4” taller than Usyk, making his frame significantly larger.

If Usyk were to beat Joshua again, his eyes would likely next be set on the WBC belt, currently held by Tyson Fury, who has been teasing the idea of retirement. While the rematch was hopefully to be held in Usyk’s home country of Ukraine, the recent turmoil has instead moved the fight elsewhere as Usyk has left the country to train abroad in preparation for the career-defining fight.

When these odds opened up in the United Kingdom last month, Usky was widely listed across the board as a -200 favorite, with Joshua opening closer to +174. Since then, the market has largely agreed with the sentiment of bookmakers, as -200 is currently the best number on the favorite I see available (William Hill).

For those looking to back the more popular and well-known Joshua, William Hill is also the best place to get in on the action, as +170 is still available.
