Following their dominant wins at UFC 276, UFC Middleweight Champion Israel Adesanya will defend his title against Alex Pereira in a rematch five years in the making. However, this time the rematch will take place inside the UFC's octagon rather than the traditional four-sided ring that the pair competed in during their Kickboxing matches back in 2016 and 2017.

Let's take a closer look at the trilogy.

Israel Adesanya vs. Alex Pereira Breakdown

Israel Adesanya (23-1)

After retiring from Kickboxing following his knockout loss to the aforementioned Pereira back in 2017, Adesanya decided to direct his focus solely on his MMA career, where he was 9-0 at the time. Since his kickboxing departure, Adesanya hasn't done much outside of compiling a 14-1 record, 13-0 at his native weight class of 185-pounds and has defeated the likes of Anderson Silva, Robert Whittaker (twice), Marvin Vettori (twice), Yoel Romero, Kelvin Gastelum, Derek Brunson, Paulo Costa and most recently, Jared Cannonier at UFC 276.

If Adesanya were to do what he's failed to do in two attempts and that's defeat, Alex Pereira, while not holding many statistical advantages over his Brazilian counterpart, he can utilize the wealth of experience that he holds over Pereira as the champion has competed in more UFC Championship bouts (eight) than Pereira has professional MMA victories (seven).

Alex Pereira (6-1)

Looking for his third win in as many tries over Adesanya, Alex Pereira burst onto the UFC scene in late 2021, where he brutally knocked out Andreas Machailidis at UFC 268 before defeating Bruno Silva via unanimous decision just four months later before most recently defeating top-five contender Sean Strickland via highlight knockout at UFC 276.

When looking to defeat the Adesanya for the third consecutive time, Pereira will undoubtedly be keen to keep this one on the feet, as he holds a sizeable 6.29 to 3.93 significant strikes landed per minute advantage over the champion.
