Paulo Costa (13-2)
Former middleweight title challenger, Paulo Costa looks to climb back into title contention at UFC 278.
The Brazilian contender had a white-hot start to his professional MMA career as the 31-year-old was 12-0, including an unblemished 5-0 record inside of the UFC octagon. However, Costa would run into the buzzsaw, better known as the 185-pound king, Israel Adesanya. Costa would be knocked out by Adesanya in the second round of their title fight at UFC 253. Costa would then lose his next bout against top contender, Marvin Vettori, last October and will be looking to avoid a third straight defeat when he takes on Luke Rockhold at UFC 278.
Luke Rockhold (16-5)
Standing across from Costa will be former UFC Middleweight Champion, Luke Rockhold.
The 37-year-old former champion, won the UFC's 185-pound title at UFC 194 when he finished Chris Weidman via fourth-round knockout. However, since his title win, Rockhold has come on hard times as he was famously knocked out by fan-favorite, Michael Bisping in his first title defense at UFC 199. Rockhold would win his next bout against David Branch but has lost three-straight bouts, which resulted in the California-native retiring following a brief two-fight run at light heavyweight where he was knocked out by Yoel Romero and Jan Blachowicz. UFC 278 will mark Rockhold's return to both the UFC and the 185-pound division as he'll compete in his first bout in over three years while looking for his first win in over five years.
