Dustin Poirier vs. Michael Chandler Breakdown

Dustin Poirier (28-7)

Dustin Poirier went on the run of his career between 2017 and the beginning of 2019. "The Diamond" rattled off five-straight victories, defeating the likes of Jim Miller, Anthony Pettis, Justin Gaethje, and Eddie Alvarez, before beating Max Holloway at UFC 236 to capture the interim UFC Lightweight Championship.

Poirier, 33, would then run into the buzzsaw that was UFC Hall of Famer, Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 242 in a title unification bout. Unfortunately for Poirier, Nurmagomedov would claim yet another victim en route to a third-round submission victory over "The Diamond". However, Poirier would bounce back when he defeated perennial contender, Dan Hooker in the 2020 Fight of The Year before defeating Conor McGregor in two-straight bouts, both via TKO. Poirier would earn himself another shot at UFC gold after the three aforementioned victories, however, he would be submitted by Charles Oliveira at UFC 269, again, coming up short in his bid for an undisputed UFC strap.

Michael Chandler (23-7)

Michael Chandler signed with the UFC in 2021 after being the face of Bellator MMA for over a decade. Chandler spent just over two minutes inside of the UFC octagon before he knocked out Dan Hooker, earning him a title shot against previously mentioned Charles Oliveira. ”Iron Mike” would be knocked out by "Do Bronx" and his consolation prize. A matchup with the knockout artist, Justin Gaethje. The bout between Chandler and Gaethje ended up as the 2021 Fight of The Year, but Chandler would lose via unanimous decision.

Chandler bounced back by knocking out former interim UFC Lightweight Champion, Tony Ferguson, this past May in what’s a sure-fire Knockout of The Year contender at UFC 274.
