The 35-year-old contender wasn't signed by the company following his unanimous decision victory over Rico Farrington on DWCS back in 2019. However, after just one more bout on the independent circuit, Rodriguez was signed by the company and immediately lived up to the hype. The Mexican-American star won his first three bouts with the promotion before dropping a decision to divisional staple, Nicolas Dalby. Rodriguez would get back on track and head into UFC 279, riding a three-fight winning streak, defeating the likes of Mike Perry, Preston Parsons, and most recently, Kevin Lee, over a year ago in August 2021.

Holland, 29, is also a DWCS alum, however, unlike Rodriguez, Holland was immediately signed by the UFC following his appearance on the show. Holland would lose his promotional debut against former 205-pound title challenger, Thiago Santos. However, Holland would get find his footing inside of the octagon and rattled off four-straight wins before being submitted by Brendan Allen. Holland would then go on another winning streak, this time, winning five straight. Unfortunately for Holland, he'd run into a pair of buzzsaws in the form of Derek Brunson and Marvin Vettori.
