Ever since the former King of The Bantamweights entered the UFC back in the summer of 2018, 'No Mercy' has changed the game. The Russian-born contender won seven-straight bouts to begin his promotional tenure, the final of which, was to claim the vacant 135-pound title over the former longtime champion, Jose Aldo. Yan would infamously be disqualified after striking Aljamain Sterling with an illegal knee, which would see Sterling become champion. Yan would outclass Cory Sandhagen in an interim title bout but would lose to Sterling in the pair's rematch via a razor-thin split decision at UFC 273.

'Sugar' Sean O'Malley looks to earn his first shot at UFC gold when he faces Petr Yan, this weekend. The outspoke bantamweight contender earned a UFC contract when he viciously knocked out Alfred Khashakyankyan during an episode of Dana White's Contender Series. O'Malley would then rattle off four-straight wins before being TKO'd by Chito Vera after he (O'Malley) suffered a leg injury, which Vera capitalized on to hand O'Malley his first professional career loss. However, 'Sugar' has righted the ship as of late as he's 3-0 (1NC) in his last four outings, including wins over the likes of Thomas Almeida, Kris Moutinho, and Raulian Paiva before tuning up Pedro Munhoz, however, the O'Malley-Munhoz fight would be called off in the second-round due to an accidental eye poke from O'Malley.
