Volkan Oezdemir (18-6)
Former UFC Light Heavyweight Championship challenger Volkan Oezdemir looks to leap back into title contention when he faces Nikita Krylov at UFC 280.
The Swiss-born contender entered the UFC back in 2017 and wasted no time in putting himself on the map. Oezdemir knocked out perennial contender Ovince Saint Preux in his promotional debut, which he followed up with a 28-second knockout off Misha Cirkunov and a 42-second KO of Jimi Manuwa, which earned him a shot at UFC gold. Unfortunately for Oezdemir, he'd be outclassed by Daniel Cormier, which started a bit of a downward spiral for Oezdemir, as he'd lose three-straight bouts. Oezdemir would get back on track with a pair of wins over Ilir Latifi and Aleksandar Rakic but would lose another pair of contests against the current 205-pound king, Jiri Prochazka, and Magomed Ankalaev. However, Oezdemir heads into UFC 280 on the back of a victory over Paul Craig this past July.
Nikita Krylov (28-9)
Since entering the promotion in 2013, Krylov was one of the hottest prospects on the heavyweight scene but would lose his promotional debut before dropping down to 205-pounds. Krylov won five-straight bouts before being stopped by Misha Cirkunov and left the promotion altogether in 2016. Krylov would quickly get right back on track and won four straight following the loss and would return to the UFC in 2018, but has only won 2 of his 6 outings since his return. However, much-like Oezdemir, Krylov heads into this morning following a victory as he KO'd former title challenger Alexander Gustafsson this past July on the same card as Oezdemir's victory over Paul Craig.
