Tyson Pedro vs. Modestas Bukauskas Breakdown
Tyson Pedro (9-3)
Looking to secure a win in front of his home country fans at UFC 284 is Tyson Pedro.
Following a 3-0 spell on the independent circuit, Pedro found himself as some much-needed infusion of youth in the UFC's light heavyweight division. Pedro would immediately live up to the hype after securing wins over divisional mainstays Khalil Rountree Jr. and Paul Craig. Unfortunately for Pedro, he'd stare a 1-3 run in the face, dropping bouts against Ilir Latifi, Ovince St-Preux, and Shogun Rua. With a win over Saparbeg Safarov mixed in, Pedro would make the move to heavyweight and hasn't looked back since. Pedro heads into UFC 284 on the back of two consecutive victories, defeating Ike Villanueva and most recently Harry Hunsucker this past August.
If Pedro were to make it three straight on Saturday night, he might be keen to drag Bukauskas to deep waters and bring this one to the mat. Pedro isn't quite Khabib Nurmagomedov on the mat but does attempt 0.64 takedowns per 15 minutes. Bukauskas hasn't been taken down in his brief UFC career but has yet to face much of a takedown threat and certainly not anyone who's actively looking for a submission as much as Pedro does.
Modestas Bukauskas (13-5)
Looking to spoil the party in the land down under is Modestas Bukauskas.
Following a 9-2 run on the independent circuit, Bukauskas would earn his way onto the UFC roster. Upon his arrival in the Ultimate Fighting Championship 'The Baltic Gladiator' claimed victory in his debut bout, defeating Andreas Machailidis via first-round stoppage. Unfortunately for Bukauskas, he'd run into quite the dry spell after dropping three straight bouts against Jimmy Crute, Michal Oleksiejczuk, and Khalil Rountree Jr. Bukausas would be let go from his UFC contract. Still, they would steady the ship in Cage Warriors as he's heading into his second UFC debut after two consecutive victories over Lee Chadwick and most recently Chuck Campbell this past December.
If Bukauskas is to spoil the party on Saturday night, he'd certainly want to keep this one on the feet. 'The Baltic Gladiator' has never attempted a takedown in his UFC career and boasts a solid 3.59 significant strikes landed per minute advantage over his Australian counterpart. Bukauskas is also the more defensively sound striker as he holds the ever so slight 52% to 51% significant strikes defended advantage over Pedro.
