Cody Garbrandt vs. Trevin Jones Breakdown
Cody Garbrandt (12-5)
Entering the UFC in 2015, 'No Love' Cody Garbrandt immediately made an impact in the Ultimate Fighting Championship's 135-pound division. Garbrandt rattled off five-straight victories to begin his UFC tenure, defeating the likes of Marcus Brimage, Henry Briones, Augusto Mendes, Thomas Almeida, and Takeya Mizugaki. The 5-0 mark earned Garbrandt a shot at the bantamweight title, a test Garbrandt passed with flying colors as he outclassed Dominick Cruz over five rounds en route to his first UFC gold.
However, following the win over Cruz, that's where things would get rocky for 'No Love'. Three consecutive losses for Garbrandt would follow his title victory, including back-to-back shortcomings against TJ Dillashaw. Garbrandt heads into UFC 285 on the back of a 1-5 run, which includes an attempt in the 125-pound division, where he'd be knocked out in the first round by Kai Kara-France.
When it comes to how Garbrandt can secure the victory at UFC 285, he'll undoubtedly want to keep this one on the feet. During his title run, Garbrandt was renowned as one of the best pure boxers in the entire UFC. The former champion holds a stellar 3.16 to 2.33 significant strikes landed per-minute advantage over Jones and is the better defensive fighter as he stops 60% of his opponent's strikes. At the same time, Jones only does the same 40% of the time.

Trevin Jones (13-9)
Making his UFC debut in 2021, Trevin Jones looks for the biggest win of his UFC career when he stands across from Cody Garbrandt at UFC 285.
Jones began his tenure in the Ultimate Fighting Championship off on the right foot after he knocked out Mario Bautista at UFC 259. However, Jones would have a rough patch since his successful promotional debut as Jones heads into this weekend looking to halt a three-fight winning streak after dropping to the likes of Saidyokub Kakhramonov, Javid Basharat, and most recently, Raoni Barcelos this past October.
If Jones were to secure the upset at UFC 285, he may want to mix this one up. While not holding any statistical advantage over Garbrandt, Jones is a powerful striker, and while being may be the overall stronger fighter, he may be able to make this one an all-out brawl. Perhaps mixing in the clinch and even threatening a takedown or two would keep Garbrandt on his toes and allow for a big shot to open up for Jones.
