Since bursting on to the UFC scene back in 2013 with an explosive octagon debut, Conor McGregor has shot to worldwide superstardom with his performances in the cage and incredible quotes in front of the cameras.
The Irishman has risen to prominence in a short space of time, becoming one of the most recognizable athletes on the planet and undoubtedly one of the most financially assured in just six years.
Even before making his debut in the UFC in Sweden all those years ago, 'The Notorious' was busy building his reputation with superb showings in the cage, mainly across his native Ireland and the UK.
But it wasn't until he stormed onto the UFC roster that his career really began to take off, eventually reaching astronomical heights with his controversial choice of words and ability to deliver great one-liners for the media in attendance.
All of that on top of his sublime accomplishments inside the octagon as well, with McGregor having become the organization's first-ever fighter to hold world titles in two weight divisions simultaneously. The Dubliner, in typical McGregor style, subsequently dubbed himself the 'champ champ', a term which has since caught on among others in MMA.
So, with the 30-year-old UFC superstar being widely regarded for his entertaining and sometimes hilarious choice of words, here are five of the best quotes he has ever produced since joining the UFC.
5. "There are two things I really like to do and that's whoop ass and look good. I'm doing one of them right now and on Saturday night, I'm doing the other." - August 2013
After disposing of Marcus Brimage in emphatic style on his organizational debut in Stockholm, brutally stopping him inside the opening round of their clash, McGregor was out again only a few months later in a promising match-up with Max Holloway.
Both men would eventually go on to become kings of the featherweight division in their respective careers, with Holloway now even regarded as arguably the best fighter ever to grace the 145 pounds division.
But it was 'The Notorious' that came out on top on this occasion in Boston with a unanimous decision victory and ahead of the bout he produced a very memorable quote at the press conference, outlining his love of "whooping ass" and "looking good". Classic.
4. “I am cocky in prediction. I am confident in preparation, but I am always humble in victory or defeat." - September 2014
In light of his impressive triumph over 'The Blessed One', McGregor then stopped Diego Brandao inside a round and set up another intriguing meeting with Dustin Poirier.
The latter opponent has also since gone on to claim UFC gold in the lightweight division and there could well be a future rematch, with McGregor having won with a first-round knockout the first time around in 2014.
Following yet another stunning KO success at UFC 178, McGregor gave the fans and media in attendance at the press conference another gem of a quote, admitting his cockiness when predicting fight outcomes but stating his humbleness too. He has become known as 'Mystic Mac' for those exact predictions, too!
3. "These custom-made suits aren’t cheap. This solid gold pocket watch, three people died making this watch. I need to put people away. I need those big fights. I’m going to end up in debt pretty fast." - August 2013
Back to that admirable win over Holloway in 2013, after which it was revealed he was actually seriously injured, and his post-fight comments were classic McGregor.
The deadly Dubliner is known for his flashy style outside the octagon and he was quick to showcase his new-found wealth to those in attendance in August 2013.
After earning a win that has only got better over time, with Holloway gradually becoming a UFC legend himself, McGregor flashed his valuables and humorously admitted his need to keep fighting in order to avoid future debt due to a lavish lifestyle. It could happen yet!
2. “I own this town, I own Rio de Janeiro, so for him to say that he is the king and I am the joker, if this was a different time, I would invade his favela on horseback, and would kill anyone who wasn’t fit to work. But we’re in a new time, so I’ll whoop his ass instead.” - March 2015
The build-up to the featherweight title showdown with the legendary Jose Aldo saw McGregor produce some of his best-ever moments on the microphone.
With the world tour heading to his native Ireland and to Aldo's homeland of Brazil among other nations, the Dubliner was in fine form ahead of what would become his most famous moment inside the octagon at UFC 189.
McGregor incredibly starched the Brazilian icon in just 13 seconds to become champion. But before the bout, he was in sublime form in front of the cameras, pulling out this gem of a quote with a true battle cry involving running cities in front of unimpressed Rio de Janeiro fans.
1. “I’ve spent a lot of time slaying everyone in the company. Backstage I’m starting fights with everybody. I’ve ridiculed everyone on the roster. And I’d just like to say from the bottom of my heart, I’d like to take this chance to apologise… to absolutely nobody. The double champ does what the fuck he wants!" - November 2016
Saving perhaps the best for last. Other than the famous "we're not here to take part, we're here to take over" comment earlier in his career, this is maybe the most memorable moment on the microphone from McGregor.
After his historic feat in dethroning Eddie Alvarez to become a two-weight champion at Madison Square Garden in New York City back in 2016, the Irishman was interviewed by UFC commentator Joe Rogan in the octagon.
This quote saw the absolute best of McGregor, firing back at everyone in the roster and declaring himself as the 'champ champ' before storming off to take in the electricity from the crowd in the Big Apple.
