Just over 10 days ago, the biggest star in combat sports, Connor McGregor, shocked the fighting world by announcing he was retiring from the UFC, via twitter.
Not many UFC fans have taken McGregor’s recent retirement seriously, and it seems as though UK oddsmakers agree.
McGregor is currently -1000 to return from retirement, according to UK sportsbooks. If that seems like a long shot, it is. His -1000 odds to return give him a whopping 99% implied probability of coming back.
There is some precedence for the doubt shown by oddsmakers and fans, as this isn’t the first time McGregor has stepped away from the octagon.
In April 2016, he also tweeted that he would be retiring from the UFC, only to fight for the company four more times since.
He also took a prolonged absence from the sport to pursue a boxing career and fight Floyd Mayweather in 2017.
Prior to his retirement announcement, McGregor was linked to possible fights with Jorge Masvidal, Nate Diaz, Justin Gaethje and Khabib Nurmagomedov.
