Reyes vs. Blachowicz Preview
Every sports fan in the world knows that UFC 253 is being headlined by the blockbuster Israel Adesanya vs. Paulo Costa fight. But, right before the Adesanya/Costa fight is the other co-main event, one that features Jan Blachowicz and Dominick Reyes and is sure to produce fireworks from the opening bell.
Blachowicz is the more experienced fighter in his bout against Reyes. At 37 years old, he’s compiled a 26-8 record and been fighting in the UFC since October 2014.
Blachowicz comes into Saturday’s co-main event on a three-fight win streak. He’s defeated Corey Anderson, Ronald Souza and Luke Rockhold leading up to the bout. His last defeat came via TKO against Thiago Santos in February 2019. He’s the 3rd-ranked light heavyweight in the UFC.
Reyes, at age 30, has only had 13 professional fights in his career. He started out on a 12-fight win streak before losing his last bout. You can look at it one of two ways. Either you see him coming off a loss as a negative, because it’s the first of his career, or you acknowledge that the loss was to Jon Jones, one of the greatest UFC fighters of all time and the current No. 1 ranked pound-for-pound fighter in the UFC, and count it as a valuable learning experience.
