Conor McGregor

It will have been just over a year since we’ve seen Conor McGregor in a UFC fight when he enters the octagon to face Dustin Poirier on January 23 at UFC 257.

His last fight, on January 18, 2020, ended with a first-round TKO over Donald Cerrone after a vicious shoulder strike left Cowboy dazed.

McGregor is 22-4 in his professional MMA career, but has only fought in the UFC twice since December of 2016.

McGregor’s last loss came on October 6, 2018 against Khabib Nurmagomedov via a fourth-round submission. All four of McGregor’s professional losses have come via submission.

Dustin Poirier

Poirier comes into January’s fight with a 26-6 professional MMA record. He topped Dan Hooker via unanimous decision in his last bout, on June 27 of this year.

Like McGregor, his last loss came at the hands of Khabib, via submission.

Poirier isn’t as big of a name as McGregor, no one is, but he’s a top fighter in the 155-pound class. He has wins over Max Holloway, Eddie Alvarez, Anthony Pettis and former champion Justin Gaethje.

In McGregor vs. Poirier I, McGregor caught Poirier with a well-placed left before finishing him off with a furry of strikes.
