McGregor vs. Poirier III: McGregor Favored After Announcing Fight
It’s official, at least according to twitter. Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier will be facing off for the third time in their career, according to a tweet McGregor sent out on Saturday. Now, we know the date and the fighters, we’re just waiting to hear where it’ll take place.
McGregor and Poirier have split the two fights in their two-fight series.
The first time these two fighters met in the octagon McGregor was still ascending to worldwide superstar. At UFC 178 in 2014, McGregor won via TKO in the first round, a showing that won him performance of the night.
We all know what happened to McGregor next as he tore through the featherweight and lightweight divisions for the next few years. But, Poirier, while maintaining a low profile, also steadily took off in the UFC and became one of the biggest names in the sport.
That set the stage for their last fight, which took place in January of this year. Poirier came in with a game plan, neutralizing McGregor’s striking and movement with a series of leg kicks and eventually getting his revenge with a TKO victory of his own.
