BYU vs. Coastal Carolina Odds: Battle of the Unbeatens Scheduled for Saturday
The No. 14 Coastal Carolina Chanticleers were all set for the biggest football game in their program’s history this week, hosting 9-1 Liberty. Now, just two days from Saturday’s scheduled game, the showdown has been cancelled due to a COVID-19 outbreak on Liberty, taking Coastal’s biggest game off the schedule and ruining any shot at a big bowl game.
But, using some creativity, Coastal was able to get an even bigger opponent on Saturday, as No. 8 BYU will travel to Conway, SC for a battle of unbeaten teams.
This game is not only the biggest in Coastal Carolina history, but it’s also a chance for the Cougars to take down a ranked opponent and sneak into the College Football Playoffs. The stakes are as high as they’ve ever been for either team, so what are the oddsmakers saying?
BYU
The Cougars are led by quarterback and Heisman hopeful Zach Wilson. Wilson has been one of the best players in the entire country this season, passing for 2,724 yards, 26 touchdowns and throwing just two interceptions.
Think Johnny Manziel without the over-the-top personality. He can make things happen with his feet, throw the ball a mile and is an exceptional decision maker in the pocket.
BYU has absolutely manhandled every team they’ve faced this year, with the exception of a 27-20 win over UTSA, and the only blemish on their record is that they really haven’t played anyone.
Coastal Carolina
Like BYU, Coastal is led by a dual-threat quarterback that can hurt you in a bunch of different ways, but he’s not as polished as Wilson, yet. Freshman Grayson McCall doesn’t have the big passing numbers to this point, but he’s thrown 20 touchdowns and just one interception, which has been a huge part of Coastal’s success.
A big reason Coastal is undefeated to this point has been their running game and their “Black Swarm” defense, which will have to be at its best if it’s going to keep Wilson and BYU in check.

Predictably, BYU is a big favorite for Saturday’s showdown. As an independent school, they’re well known on the national stage and play traditionally better programs than Coastal does in the Sun Belt.
