Texas A&M vs. Arkansas Odds: Aggies Laying 5.5 Points on the Road to the Razorbacks

Texas A&M and Arkansas are gearing up for their first SEC assignment of the season, and the premium on the win can't be stressed enough, as top spot and bragging rights are on the line when they collide at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, on Saturday.

Arguably, there is value on both sides of the coin. The Aggies and Razorbacks are enjoying good form and momentum, respectively. Through three weeks of the 2021 NCAAF season, both the Aggies and Razorbacks are undefeated. However, according to the odds, the Aggies have the edge over the Razorbacks.

As per the latest odds serving, the Aggies are laying 5.5 points to the Razorbacks for this much-anticipated SEC showdown. The total is projected to 47 points with many bookmakers, although several shops have moved the needle up to 47.5 points.

Books give Texas A&M a 67.7 percent chance of winning this game. However, the Aggies are priced at -210 to win straight up, which means bettors will have to fork out $210 to get a C-note. While the Razorbacks are priced at +180 for the upset, which means a C-note would yield $180. Betting on Arkansas for the upset, though, has a 35.7 percent probability of success. In other words, it's a risky bet.

Arkansas vs. Texas A&M Preview

Texas A&M (3-0, 0-0 SEC) is off to a flying start this season, reeling off three straight wins to improve to 3-0 overall on the 2021 NCAAF season. They recently capped off their solid run with a 34-0 rout of New Mexico in Week 3. Granted, the Lobos went into the game as the whopping +30 underdogs, but Texas A&M still roughed them up and comfortably covered the spread with some points to spare.

The Aggies have put up 85 points and conceded merely 17 points combined over three games. That's an average of 28.3 points scored and 5.7 points conceded per game. Sizing up the Aggies, it's the defense that has carried the bulk of the load so far. They've allowed the fewest points on average, earning first place in the process for the fewest points allowed. They're also first overall against the pass and ninth overall in total defense.

Quarterback Haynes King was injured in Week 2, opening the door for backup Zach Calzada to take over as the offensive pivot. Calzada looked good against New Mexico, but Arkansas presents a different challenge altogether, one that's several notches higher on the difficulty spectrum.

Arkansas (3-0, 0-0 SEC) is proving to be the surprise package in the SEC West. They're off to a stellar 3-0 start on the season and find themselves ranked amongst some of the best programs in the country. However, going into the college football season, expectations were decidedly low for the Razorbacks. This unexpected run of form is underscored by solid play on both sides of the ball. Quarterback KJ Jefferson has played solid ball, and the Razorback' stout defense has impressed. They beat Rice 38-17, Texas 40-21, and GA Southern 45-10. Overall, the Razorbacks have put up 123 points and conceded 48 points combined. That's an average of 41 points scored and 16 points conceded per game.Whether Arkansas can carry the momentum against Texas A&M to defy the odds remains to be seen. Should they pull off the feat and serve up an upset, it would be quite the statement.

This SEC West showdown represents one of a few headline games for bettors to spot on Week 4's slate. Another one to spot is No. 12 Notre Dame's trip to No. 18 Wisconsin. Notre Dame vs. Wisconsin Odds: Badgers Given 67.7% Chance to Win

As mentioned above, these two sides have been flawless in their starts to the season. However, this is the toughest matchup either side has faced, so it's going to be interesting to see what they're really made of.

Texas A&M is modest favorites against Arkansas, opening value on both sides. Texas A&M is 3-0 SU and 2-1-0 ATS with an average winning margin of 22.7 points. Arkansas is 3-0 SU and 3-0-0 ATS with an average winning margin of 25 points.

By the NCAAF odds, this matchup is projected as a much closer contest than their previous games were so far. That's in keeping with the previous meetings between the pair that have featured hard-fought battles and often were decided by a score.
