Coastal Carolina vs. Appalachian State Odds: Chanticleers Given 62.1% Chance To Win

One of the best games in the Sun Belt these past few seasons has been Coastal Carolina vs. Appalachian State. And, if this year’s Coastal Carolina vs. Appalachian State odds are any indication, we should be in for another good one this week when the two face off in conference play.

Last season, Coastal hosted App State and ended up winning 34-23. This year, The Chanticleers, ranked No. 14 in the country, travel to Boone, North Carolina to take on the Mountaineers.

Coastal Carolina has gone from a little-known program to a national powerhouse in the last few years. Last year, Coastal finished the regular season with a perfect 11-0 record before falling in OT to Liberty in their bowl game.

App State also comes off a good season, finishing 9-3 and winning the Myrtle Beach Bowl against North Texas. This year was supposed to be a big one for the Mountaineers. Former Clemson QB Chase Brice is under center and leading a talented offense. But, App State comes in off a brutal loss to Louisiana last week.

So, let’s break down the latest Coastal Carolina vs. Appalachian State odds and see what the oddsmakers think.

Coastal Carolina vs. Appalachian State Preview

The Coastal Carolina offense runs through their uber-talented quarterback, Grayson McCall. McCall has been banged up in recent weeks and there were questions about whether or not he would be able to play two weeks ago against Arkansas State.

McCall answered those questions by throwing for 365 yards and four TDs, including a 99-yard TD pass on his very first passing attempt of the game. But, this Coastal offense isn’t a one-man show. As a matter of fact, they’re far from it.

Senior WR Jaivon Heligh leads the way for receivers with 573 yards and four TDs in six games this season. Meanwhile, tight end Isaiah Likely is fresh off a 232-yard, 4-TD performance against Arkansas State. If that wasn’t enough, the Chants have three running backs on the roster averaging over 7 yards per carry. Brayden Bennett, Shermari Jones and Reese White all share the load in the running game.

Last season it was the “Black Swarm” defense that carried the Chanticleers. This year, it’s the high-powered offense led by McCall.

App State certainly has a ton of firepower on offense themselves.

Nate Noel and Cam Peoples lead the way for the App State rushing attack, but People has missed two straight games with an undisclosed injury, so we’re unsure if we’ll see him come Wednesday night.

The roster is also filled with talented receivers like Corey Sutton, Thomas Hennigan and Malik Williams. Shockingly, the real question mark this season has been Chase Brice.

Brice, despite being a highly sought-after recruit out of high school and eventually signing with Clemson, has struggled to find a place to stick. He transferred to Duke last year and started at QB for the Blue Devils, but Brice struggled taking care of the football.

Now, in the Sun Belt, we’re seeing those issues pop up again. Brice has just eight passing TDs and five interceptions this season. He’s completed a high percentage of passes but hasn’t looked anywhere close to the same QB that was supposed to take over at Clemson and Duke.

Coastal Carolina vs. Appalachian State Odds

Last season’s win for Coastal Carolina vs. Appalachian State was the first ever for the Chanticleers. They had lost their first three meetings against the Mountaineers, so it’s a little bit of a shock to the system to see Coastal Carolina vs. Appalachian State odds favoring Coastal.

But, the Chanticleers are the No. 14 team in the country for a good reason. Their offensive firepower is some of the best in the country, let alone the Sun Belt, and their defense has done a great job after losing starters to the NFL and graduation last season.

Still, not only is Coastal favored on the moneyline at -164, but they’re also favored by more than a field goal on the spread. According to the latest Coastal Carolina vs. Appalachian State odds, the Chanticleers are laying 3.5 points. At -164, they have an implied probability of 62.1%.

Meanwhile, Appalachian State’s odd of +155 imply a 39.2% chance they pull off the upset.

Teams Point Spread Moneyline Over/Under
Coastal Carolina -3.5 -164 Over 60
Appalachian State +3.5 +155 Under 60
