Clemson vs. Pitt Odds: Pitt Has 60.6% Chance To Beat Clemson For First Time Since 2016

At one point in time, Pitt football was considered a national powerhouse. In 1976, the Panthers won a national title, thanks in large part to RB Tony Dorsett. Then, in 1980 and 1981, Dan Marino led them to back-to-back No. 2 rankings to finish the year. Pitt’s last conference title came in 2010, but it was in the Big East, not the ACC.

So, when Clemson travels to Pitt this weekend, it’s no stretch to say this is the program’s biggest game in over 20 years. And, have we mentioned that the latest Clemson vs. Pitt odds actually have the Panthers favored?

If, coming into the season, you would have told even the biggest Pitt football fan that they would be favored when they faced Clemson in Week 8, they would have laughed you out of the room. But, here we are, just a day away from this ACC showdown and Pitt, led by QB Kenny Pickett, is favored, according to Clemson vs. Pitt odds.

Clemson vs. Pitt Preview

The high-flying Pitt offense, which is a statement that I’m not sure anyone ever thought they’d hear again, has led the 2021 Panthers to a 5-1 start overall and a 2-0 start to the ACC season.

Pittsburgh’s offense is averaging an insane 48.33 points per game this season. Last week, when they scored 28 in a 28-7 win over Virginia Tech on the road, it was their lowest-scoring performance of the entire year. The biggest change between this year and years past has been quarterback play, specifically that of starter Kenny Pickett.

Pickett has, shockingly, inserted himself directly into the Heisman trophy conversation and is a big reason why Clemson vs. Pitt odds favor the Panthers. In six games, Pickett has thrown for 1,934 yards, 21 TDs and just one INT. His 88.4 QBR is 3rd in the entire nation and he’s the fifth favorite to win the Heisman.

Pitt running back Israel Abanikanda has been great as well in a somewhat limited role, averaging 5 yards per carry, but it has largely been the passing attack that has carried the Panthers. Wide receiver Jordan Addison lead the team in receiving with 34 catches, 586 yards and an eye-popping nine touchdowns.

As for Clemson, it’s been a rare down year for the Tigers, which has led to Clemson vs. Pitt odds tabbing them as the underdog for this ACC game.

Clemson’s offense has been flat-out bad this year they’ve scored more than 21 points just one time, and it came against South Carolina State. They average just 20.5 points per game and a lot of that is due to their lack of passing game.

Clemson starting QB DJ Uiagalelei came into the 2021 season as a Heisman frontrunner, but he’s quickly fallen out of that conversation. In 6 starts, Uiagalelei has thrown for 974 yards, 4 TD, 3 INTs and has a 41.5 QBR. He is one of the worst starting QBs in the entire country. Forget 300-yard games, Uiagalelei has broken 200 yards just once, in a 19-13 win over Boston College.

Now, the Clemson defense is a legitimate unit. One of the best in the nation. It’ll be a real test for Pitt QB Kenny Pickett. But, if Clemson can’t score, it won’t matter how well their defense plays.

Clemson vs. Pitt Odds

Prior to this season, if you would have told me that Clemson vs. Pitt odds were going to favor Clemson by four TDs, I would have been more likely to believe that than the current Clemson vs. Pitt odds.

But, eight weeks into the season here we are, with Pitt ranked as the No. 23 team in the country and Clemson with two losses and sitting unranked. Pitt is favored in every single way imaginable for Saturday’s game.

The latest Clemson vs. Pitt odds have Clemson as +140 on the moneyline and +3 on the point spread. Pitt is -3 and -154 on the moneyline. Those moneyline odds give the Panthers a 60.6% chance of their first win over Clemson since 2016.
