Ole Miss vs. Auburn Odds: 61% Of Bettors Backing Road Dog Rebels
Among the marquee games on a loaded Week 9 slate of college football is a primetime SEC showdown between the Ole Miss Rebels and Auburn Tigers. Both of these teams are firmly engrained in the AP Top 25 coming in, with rankings of 10 and 18, respectively. This SEC West Division battle is critical to both sides as they attempt to keep their conference title hopes alive. For Ole Miss, a College Football Playoff berth is also still a possibility. The college football betting odds have installed the home side as a very small favorite with plenty of scoring expected in this matchup.

Ole Miss Rebels Preview
Lane Kiffin’s Rebels have responded well following their road setback against Alabama three weeks ago. Ole Miss has rattled off three consecutive wins since over three quality SEC foes. After surviving a shootout thriller against Arkansas, the Rebels had to endure a hostile environment at Rocky Top against Tennessee. They kept the train rolling last week with a two-touchdown home win over LSU. While they do not have the head-to-head tiebreaker against Alabama, the Rebels are still in the running for an SEC Championship Game appearance and a spot in the College Football Playoff. They’ll need a little help along the way, but this team has shown it can compete with the best in the country.
Leading the charge for Ole Miss is quarterback Matt Corral. The current college football betting Heisman Trophy frontrunner actually put up very modest numbers by his standards in last week’s win over LSU. After sustaining a lower-body injury against Tennessee, it wasn’t a huge surprise to see Kiffin run the bulk of the offense through his running backs last week. Four Rebels saw double0-digit attempts on the ground, including Corral who ran for a touchdown. Jarod “Snoop” Conner led the backfield with 117 yards rushing. Jerrion Ealy wasn’t far behind with 97 yards and a score. The Rebels defense has taken a massive step forward from a year ago. They had three takeaways against the Tigers and are tied for ninth in the country with a +9 turnover margin.
Auburn Tigers Preview
Bryan Harsin’s Tigers will have a rest advantage in this Saturday’s college football betting matchup after they sat idle last week. The Tigers certainly did their part to build momentum heading into the week off. Bo Nix came up huge in both a comeback road win over LSU and a double-digit victory over a quality Arkansas team. Sandwiched in between was a 24-point loss to No. 1 Georgia. There certainly isn’t any shame in losing to the Bulldogs this season. The oft-criticized Nix threw for 292 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the impressive road win over Arkansas. He also ran for a score. Nix has notably been much better playing at home on The Plains. He could prove difficult for the Ole Miss defense to slow down on Saturday.
Defensively, the Tigers will have their work cut out for them in this college football betting contest as well. Auburn won the game against Arkansas by 15 despite being outgained and surrendering 460 yards of total offense. Slowing down the high-octane Rebels attack isn’t easy for any opponent. We have seen drastically different versions of this Auburn team show up throughout their first seven games. Will we see the sharp team from the Arkansas game on Saturday? Or will Auburn more closely resemble the team that had to bench their starting quarterback and get a gift officiating call just to survive Georgia State on their home field?
Ole Miss vs. Auburn Betting Odds and Line Movement
Team | Moneyline | ML Implied Probability | Spread | Total |
---|---|---|---|---|
Ole Miss | +125 | 44.4% | +2.5 (-103) | O 66 (-110) |
Auburn | -130 | 56.5% | -2.5 (-110) | U 66 (-105) |
Oddsmakers initially opened Auburn as a one-point favorite ahead of this college football betting showdown. The market has since driven the spread up to the Tigers laying -2.5 at home. Despite the potent offenses both teams possess, the total has dropped down a full four points after opening at 70.5. All in all, this game is viewed as a very even matchup. Auburn is given just a 56.5% chance of winning the game outright as the betting favorite.
Ole Miss vs. Auburn Betting Picks and Prediction
The key for Ole Miss on Saturday will be handling the hostile environment of Jordan-Hare with poise. If they do so, Lane Kiffin’s Rebels are the superior team in this matchup. Ole Miss has been one of the most turnover-savvy defenses in the country thus far. A matchup against an inconsistent QB in Bo Nix could lead to a few more takeaways.
Going back historically, Auburn has dominated the series between these two SEC rivals. The Tigers hold a 34-10 all-time advantage over Ole Miss. However, the Rebels have never had a Heisman-caliber quarterback like Matt Corral. Turnovers plagued him a year ago, but he has thrown just one pick all season to date. The last win for Ole Miss against Auburn came back in 2015. Prior to last Saturday, that was also the last season in which they won the Magnolia Bowl rivalry against LSU. While my gut says they can end another streak on Saturday, the fact that they are currently a public dog makes me hesitant. The best betting lean here is to play under 66. No Ole Miss vs Auburn matchup has hit that number since 2017.
Ole Miss vs. Auburn Prediction: Under 66 (-105)
