Los Angeles Rams Preview

The Rams dominated the box score in their NFL betting matchup last week against the Tennessee Titans. L.A. nearly doubled the Titans in total yards and ran 18 more plays. Unfortunately, the Rams lost on the scoreboard by a double-digit margin. The fact that it was the first game for Tennessee without star running back Derrick Henry made the result a shocking one for many bettors. One of the big reasons why Los Angeles came up short was due to losing the turnover battle. Matthew Stafford threw a pair of interceptions to undermine his 294-yard performance. One of those was returned for a pick-six making it a particularly costly giveaway.

Despite the mistakes, it was another balanced aerial attack for the Rams with four players eclipsing 40 receiving yards in the game. Robert Woods led the way with 98 yards on seven catches while Cooper Kupp was just behind with 95 on 11 grabs. Lead running back Darrell Henderson did leave the game briefly with an ankle injury but was able to return. On defense, the Rams did nothing to diminish their fourth overall ranking in adjusted efficiency on the season. Unfortunately, a Jalen Ramsey interception deep in Tennessee territory only resulted in three points. The offense will need to be more efficient if the Rams hope to cover on Monday as NFL betting favorites.

San Francisco 49ers Preview

One of the more embarrassing efforts of Week 9 came courtesy of the 49ers’ defense. San Fran allowed an Arizona Cardinals outfit that was without both quarterback Kyler Murray and star receiver DeAndre Hopkins to put up 31 points and 437 yards of offense. Backup Colt McCoy completed all but four of his pass attempts while James Conner went absolutely bananas both on the ground and as a pass-catcher. The 49ers are going to need to dig deep and find an element of toughness if they are to have any chance of slowing down the loaded Rams’ offense on Monday night. For bettors, last week’s performance was particularly painful after NFL betting lines moved heavily in the Niners’ favor before kickoff.

If the 49ers are going to win a home game for the first time all year, they will also need a mistake-free game from QB Jimmy Garoppolo. He played well last week, throwing for 326 yards and a pair of scores. While the ugly loss was by no means Garoppolo’s fault, he did throw a late interception that shut down any hopes of making a successful comeback. Mostly due to falling behind 14-0 after the first quarter, it was a quiet day on the ground for Elijah Mitchell. On the bright side, George Kittle made a successful return from IR and posted a 100-yard game. He found the end zone, as did wideout Brandon Aiyuk who appears to finally be breaking free from his early-season slump. Along with Deebo Samuel, the 49ers finally have their top three pass-catchers healthy and playing well.

Despite both teams picking up ugly losses last week, the betting odds have crept further in the Rams’ direction as short road favorites. After originally opening at -3, Los Angeles is now laying a full four points across the NFL betting market. The biggest shocker ahead of this MNF contest though is the percentage of public bets. At the time of writing, an overwhelming 89% of spread bets were laying the points with the Rams.

The disparity in the ticket count for this divisional matchup is even larger when it comes to the moneyline. 99% of all bets placed on the Rams-49ers outright winner are on L.A. The gap doesn’t get any bigger than that. We have also seen the total for this game move up two and a half points after initially opening at 47.

49ers vs. Rams Betting Picks and Prediction

The importance of this game for both teams cannot be overstated. For the Rams, a win will enable them to keep pace with the Arizona Cardinals in the NFC West Division race. It will also be huge for their chances of earning the top overall seed in the NFC Playoffs and the bye that comes with it. For the 49ers, Monday’s NFL betting matchup might as well be considered a must-win. The last thing Kyle Shanahan’s team can afford to do is fall three games below .500 and further behind in the playoff race. A loss would all but mathematically end the Niners’ chances of winning the division.

It goes without saying that the Rams have the offensive weapons to exploit the 49ers’ weak secondary. That being said, one has to believe that the 49ers will bounce back from last week’s embarrassment and play one of their best games of the season defensively. The public clearly thinks Los Angeles is the superior team in this matchup, evidenced by the massive ticket discrepancies. The fact that the line has only been adjusted one point suggests that oddsmakers are confident in their number. This in turn should make savvy bettors confident in San Francisco’s ability to cover as well. For those feeling particularly daring, a little sprinkle on the moneyline might not be a bad play either.

49ers vs. Rams NFL Betting Picks: 49ers +4 (-107)
