NFL Coach of the Year Odds: Is Bill Belichick Back in the Race?
Last night was a coaching masterclass. Well, at least on one side of the coin. The New England Patriots and Buffalo Bills took the field in inclement weather in Buffalo. There was snow blowing around and insanely high wind gusts which made the passing and kicking game almost impossible.
What Bill Belichick did with his team last night was truly impressive. Yes, both the Bills and the Patriots feature strong defenses, two of the best in the league but Bill was able to find success running the ball.

In fact, the Pats ran the ball on all but three plays. Yes, in the year of our lord 2021 the Patriots won a football game where their quarterback went two of three for 19 yards passing. The dual runningbacks of Damien Harris and Rhamondre Stevenson combined for 34 carries 189 yards and a touchdown.
This game was the epitome of making life easier for your young quarterback, which Belichick has done a good job of all year. New England doesn’t ask a lot out of Mac Jones but he executes the game plan extremely well and they’ve been extremely successful because of it.
The Pats are now winners of seven straight games and they’ve held their opponents to under 20 points in five games in a row. It’s truly remarkable the turnaround New England has had from last year to this year and their ability to adapt on the fly. That’s all on coaching.
So that begs the question, is Bill Belichick back in the Coach of the Year Race?
In my mind, yes he absolutely has to be. New England went from 2-4 to the number one seed in the AFC in the span of two months. He’s winning with a rookie quarterback and has the best defense in the league. Sure, Kliff Kingsbury, Mike Vrabel, Mike McCarthy, and others have done a great job but there’s only one greatest of all time for a reason.
Plus, you can get him at insane value right now at +3000. If New England finishes the season this strong, you can absolutely make the case that he’s the most deserving coach to take home the award.
