Washington Football Team Betting Preview

It’s a quick turnaround for Washington this week after facing the Philadelphia Eagles on Tuesday night, a game that was rescheduled from Sunday following a Covid-19 outbreak within the Football Teams’ ranks. Quarterback Taylor Heinicke and backup quarterback Kyle Allen, along with a slew of key players, were placed on the reserve/Covid-19 list last week, forcing the league to move Washington’s Week 15 clash with the Eagles to Tuesday.

Even though the league pushed back the game two days, Washington was always going to be at the disadvantage. The Eagles were coming off a bye week. That kind of rest advantage can be difficult to overcome under normal circumstances, never mind when a team is hobbled due to illness.

Quarterback Garrett Gilbert was signed four days before the Football Team descended on Lincoln Financial Field to replace Heinicke and Allen. The 30-year-old journeyman was thrust into an impossible situation. That said, he did get the Football Team off to the best possible start and they put together a 10-0 lead. But Washington couldn’t maintain the advantage and the Eagles came alive in the second half on the way to the 27-17 victory.

Dallas Cowboys Betting Preview

The Cowboys are coming off a straightforward 21-6 win over the New York Giants. The win marks their third straight win after beating the New Orleans Saints, Football Team, and Giants. They’re 10-4-0 on the season and their place in the playoffs is assured.

The Cowboys moved into the No.2 spot in the NFC rankings at the close of Week 15. In beating the Giants, they did their part. However, losses by the Arizona Cardinals and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers during the same week catapulted Mike McCarthy’s side into second place.

Theoretically, this puts the Cowboys in play for the No.1 seed. But with the Green Bay Packers, current holders of the top spot, showing no signs of slowing down, it’s a bit of a longshot. The Packers advanced their bid for the No.1 seed with a 24-22 win over the Cleveland Browns on Christmas Day.

The market on his game has hopped between Dallas -9 and -10.5 over the course of the week. The wildly oscillating NFL lines and odds had everything to do with the uncertain status of Washington’s starting lineup. Since Washington’s announcement that Heinicke cleared the league’s health and safety protocols on Friday, the markets have settled on a 10-point line with Dallas to the good. The game total has enjoyed similar movement, coming down from an opening 48 points to 46.5 (or thereabouts depending on the preferred sportsbook in question.

NFL Betting Predictions and Picks

It’s a case of not enough and not soon enough to make a difference. Washington’s efforts to improve their record on the season and make the playoffs were too little too late. The four-game winning streak that saw Washington improve to a 6-6 record is a distant memory. The loss to Dallas in Week 14 was a massive setback and losing to the Eagles a week later only exacerbated their precarious position as they slipped to a 6-8 record. As things currently stand, their playoff hopes hang by the slimmest of threads.

It’s really not surprising that the odds are stacked against Washington in this pivotal NFC East showdown. Dallas is in an advantageous position and sports auspicious form. The Cowboys clinched a spot in the playoffs the best way possible, doing nothing but sitting on the settee watching Thursday Night Football. San Francisco’s loss to the Titans on Thursday Night pushed Dallas through.

The Cowboys are playing solid football. The offense might not be as lightning-quick as it was at the start of the season, but they’re doing enough. The defense has really stepped it up. Certainly, all things considered, Dallas is the better team and quite rightly they popular bet to win this game. The 10-point spread might be a bit of an ask to cover considering the circumstances. For Washington, this is a must-win game. They might be more motivated than Dallas now seeing as the Cowboys are through and all set to clinch the division title.

Pick: Washington Football Team +10
