Updated 2022 NFL Draft Order After Wild Week 18: Jaguars Secure Top Pick
Dare we say that the Jacksonville Jaguars might have had the best final week of the regular season of any team? Relative to where all 32 teams stood coming into Week 18, of course.
For starters, the Jaguars stunned the Indianapolis Colts to eliminate their AFC South Division rivals from the NFL Playoffs. The win was a positive conclusion to yet another miserable season for the franchise.
Thanks to some other results around the league, the good vibes in Duval County rolled right over to the team's outlook heading into the 2022 NFL Draft.
Entering Week 18, Jacksonville was the odds-on favorite to secure the No. 1 pick in the draft for the second straight year. Only the Detroit Lions remained alive to potentially surpass the Jaguars for the top selection.
Well, the Lions went out and knocked off a Green Bay Packers team that opted to limit the snap counts for several starters as a result of having already clinched the top seed in the NFC Playoffs. Thus, even though they won their regular-season finale as a massive underdog, the Jaguars STILL secured the right to pick first overall in the NFL Draft.
Updated 2022 NFL Draft Order
Wouldn't you love to know what the odds were on the Jaguars landing the top draft pick in the exact fashion they did? Wait, maybe there's a way to find out! Did anyone parlay the Jags and Lions on the moneyline this week?? Darn it, didn't think so.
At any rate, the top five picks in April's draft are officially locked in. The table below provides a breakdown.
Team | Draft Pick | 2021-22 Record |
---|---|---|
Jacksonville Jaguars | 1 | 3-14 |
Detroit Lions | 2 | 3-13-1 |
Houston Texans | 3 | 4-13 |
New York Jets | 4 | 4-13 |
New York Giants | 5 | 4-13 |
If you find yourself experiencing a bit of deja vu when examining that table, don't fret. After all, the Texans are the only team who have not drafted in the top-five in either of the last two years.
For the Jaguars, this will be their second straight year making the first selection in the NFL Draft. After taking quarterback Trevor Lawrence to be the centerpiece of a rebuild last year, many expect Jacksonville to address either the defense or offensive line with the top pick in 2022.

Odds to be First Overall Pick in 2022 NFL Draft
If those expectations are accurate, perhaps Oregon defensive lineman Kayvon Thibodeaux could be the selection. He currently sits atop the NFL betting odds board for which player will be drafted first overall. Thibodeaux's odds are included with several other highly-touted prospects in the table below.
Player | School | Position | Odds to be Drafted No. 1 |
---|---|---|---|
Kayvon Thibodeaux | Oregon | DE | +110 |
Evan Neal | Alabama | OT | +750 |
Malik Willis | Liberty | QB | +3000 |
Matt Corral | Ole Miss | QB | +3000 |
DeMarvin Leal | Texas A&M | DE | +4000 |
Derek Stingley Jr. | LSU | CB | +4000 |
Assuming the Jaguars elect to draft at the top spot instead of trading back, bettors can pretty much rule out any quarterback from being the first player selected.
