Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Philadelphia Eagles: Last-Minute Betting Odds, Predictions, and Picks
The Philadelphia Eagles face an impossible task against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in their NFC Wild Card showdown on Sunday. Not only are the NFL odds stacked in favor of the reigning Super Bowl champions, but the size of the odds suggests the Eagles will struggle to compete and keep this game close even though the line has moved towards Philadelphia in recent days.
Books opened the market on this game with the Eagles catching 10 points initially, but the line has dropped to 8 points with several shops with 24 hours to go before kick-off. Some shops have gone as low as 7.5 points. This is quite the drop on the NFL odds board, likely prompted by the late buyback on the Eagles.

Eagles Betting Preview
The Philadelphia Eagles rubber-stamped their place in the NFL playoffs following a 20-16 win over the Washington Football Team. Getting the job done in the penultimate round allowed coach Nick Sirianni to give some of his starters rest in Week 18, including Jalen Hurts who had suffered an ankle injury a few weeks earlier.
Sirriani fielded a second-tier side with backup Gardiner Minshew as the offensive pivot. The result was a complete evisceration by their divisional rivals, 51-26, at Lincoln Financial Field.
Although the result isn't representative of the team that Sirriani plans on fielding against the Buccaneers, the optics did them no favors. Moreover, one might argue, it was a missed opportunity to face a playoff team and gain some confidence ahead of the playoffs. Instead, the Eagles appear to be limping into the postseason, hoping to give the reigning Super Bowl champions a run for their money.
Buccaneers Betting Preview
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers clinched the NFC South crown, winning their first division title since 2007. Bruce Arian’s side accomplished the feat in Week 16 following a commanding 32-6 win over the Carolina Panthers. Tampa Bay went on to finish the season in fine form, reeling off three straight wins to cap their campaign on a 13-4 record.
That commitment to finish strong earned the Buccaneers the No.2 seed in Week 18 following a 41-17 win over the Panthers. Tampa Bay leapfrogged the Los Angeles Rams into the second spot after the Rams succumbed to the San Francisco 49ers 27-24 in overtime.
Tom Brady, at 44 years of age, enjoyed a banner season. He smashed several records and topped the league in many statistical categories. The offense has taken a bit of a beating, losing Chris Goodwin to injury and Antonio Brown (sadly) to an inexplicable row. However, nobody has been more successful in the playoffs than Tom Brady, and while he might be somewhat short-changed in weaponry, several players could step up.

Buccaneers vs. Eagles NFL Predictions and Picks
The Eagles and Buccaneers met in Week 6 Thursday Night Football, and the Buccaneers won 28-22 in the City of Brotherly Love. The Eagles covered as the 7-point home underdogs, but the final score was closer than the game itself. By the third quarter, the Buccaneers were up 28-7. The Bucs took their eye off of the ball, and the Eagles rallied to put a few late scores on the board, which at most earned the hosts the backdoor cover for NFL picks against the spread.
Second-year quarterback Jalen Hurts is one of a few feel-good stories. At the start of the season, there were many question marks about Hurts and whether he was the answer in the wake of Carson Wentz’ departure. Hurts dealt with the skepticism quite admirably and in the best way possible by just playing the game and letting the results do the talking. That’s worthy of praise.
That said, the Eagles are a product of a relatively easy schedule. Every victory has come at the expense of a non-playoff team this season. That’s massive.
So, as appealing as the narrative of the plucky underdogs punching above their weight class is, it’s an idea based on fancy rather than anything tangible. Thus, the Buccaneers should win this game and do so quite convincingly. Color the world shocked if the Eagles pull off this upset.
