Most of the offseason work is over. Teams have built their rosters and they’re preparing for the start of the 2022 season. That means oddsmakers are doing the same. Houston Texans 2022 Team Outlook Odds

The Texans are going to head into the season as the biggest underdog in the NFL. Oddsmakers have them dead last to win the Super Bowl, the AFC, and the AFC South. The Texans are given a 95.2% chance to miss the playoffs this year.

The good news is that oddsmakers do expect the Texans to hit their over on wins, the bad news is that the over/under is set at four. Still, five wins would mean an improvement over the last two seasons. So, oddsmakers clearly do believe that the Texans have improved in some way.

Houston Texans 2022 Player Awards

Oddsmakers don’t expect much from individual performance either. Davis Mills is tied for the worst MVP odds among the six starting QBs selected in the 2021 draft with Zach Wilson. Oddsmakers also don’t believe the team has any players even worth putting on the market for Defensive Player of the Year or Comeback Player of the Year. New head coach Lovie Smith is tied for the worst odds to win Coach of the Year.

Oddsmakers don’t feel much better about the draft class either. Derek Stingley was selected third overall, but he’s given the sixth-best odds to win Defensive Rookie of the Year, and less than a 10% chance at that. Meanwhile, oddsmakers believe that fourth-round pick Dameon Pierce is the team’s best chance at winning Offensive Rookie the Year, but he’s 16th on the market. The good news is that Pierce is given the fourth-best odds out of rookie RBs, so oddsmakers do seem to believe Pierce has a bright future ahead of him even if he’s not a star.
