NFL Training Camp Schedule
The 2022 NFL training camp schedule gives us an insight into how each team views its roster. For example, only a handful of teams will have their veterans report earlier than July 26th. This includes Buffalo, Jacksonville, Las Vegas, and the Los Angeles Rams. So what's the common factor between these four vastly different teams? Coaching turnover.
The Bills and the Rams lost their offensive coordinators this offseason, while the Raiders and Jaguars hired new head coaches. So implementing new schemes and assessing a brand-new roster, even for Sean McVay and Sean McDermott, will be of the utmost importance.
Other teams like Carolina, Dallas, Denver, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, San Francisco, Seattle, and Washington are having their rookies report to training camp on July 26. This is the last day to start training camp, so these coaches may believe their rookies need rest after their mini-camp. Or it could be that they want the entire roster to compete simultaneously.
Only the Jaguars and the Rams will have their rookies and veterans report on the same day before July 26. Doug Pederson will start it up on July 24, while Sean McVay will be back coaching the Rams a day earlier on July 23.
Nearly a third of the league is giving their rookies an additional week of training camp, including Atlanta, Baltimore, Miami, New England, New Orleans, both New York teams, and the Los Angeles Chargers. It's interesting to monitor how each coach views their roster and their methodology behind setting specific report dates.
