Collin Morikawa Wins The 2021 British Open

At just 24 years old, Collin Morikawa is already one of the best golfers in the entire world. On Sunday, Morikawa added to his resume, winning the 2021 British Open. Morikawa shot 4-under par on Sunday, finishing the British Open at 15-under par.

The 2021 British Open is Morikawa’s second ever major win. Collin Morikawa won the PGA Championship in 2020 for his first ever major.

Morikawa came into Sunday’s final round trailing Louis Oosthuizen by one stroke. Oosthuizen started the day 12-under par for the tournament while Morikawa was 11-under.

Collin Morikawa hung around to start Sunday’s round, parring the first six holes. Morikawa closed out the front nine on a tear, bwith birdies on hole seven, eight and nine to go out with a 32 on the front. Morikawa held off the rest of the field by making just one birdie on the back nine, shooting a 34 and giving him a 66 for his final round.

Collin Morikawa’s British Open odds opened with his best number at +4000 to win the tournament. Morikawa shot a 3-under par during Thursday’s first round. But, with Louis Oosthuizen’s seven-under showing, Morikawa’s British Open odds actually increased to +4100, implying a 2.4% chance he would win.

But, Collin Morikawa made his move on Friday, shooting a 64, good for six-under par on the day. He followed it with a 68 on Saturday and came into the final round at +200 to win the British Open. By the time Oosthuizen had a bogey at No. 4 on Sunday, Collin Morikawa had become the favorite to win the British Open at +125 and he never looked back.
