Olympics Golf Suspended Due To Lightning
Fans of Olympic golf had to wait five years for their latest fix, only for it to be cut down short on day one due to the elements. The first round of the men’s Olympic golf was suspended due to lightning for two hours which meant that not every player finished their first round on Thursday in Japan on schedule.
The golf course was as ‘gettable’ as it could be for round one and that meant we saw some very low scoring over at Kasumigaseki Country Club. For those on the course that managed to finish their opening round, -8 led the way, after Austrian Sepp Straka struck a superb 63 to take an early lead at the Tokyo Games. The former University of Georgia golfer went bogey-free for a seriously impressive debut at the Olympics.
Others to make a good start in Japan include Jazz Janewattanond (-7), Thomas Pieters (-6), Paul Casey (-4) and Viktor Hovland (-3).
We break down the full Olympics golf leaderboard and latest odds at little bit further down this article.
Olympics Golf: Team USA
Before we get to the Olympic golf odds, you’ll want to know how the big guns of Team USA started at Kasumigaseki Country Club and it was pretty much a mixed bag. Xander Schauffele and Patrick Reed did best for Team USA finishing up with opening rounds of 68, leaving them 5 shots off the early lead. Pre-tournament favorite Collin Morikawa kept it steady with an opening 69, but didn’t quite have the sparkle that saw him lift his second major championship just two weeks ago at Royal St Georges. The pick of many to win this week, Justin Thomas, looks a long way back after round one, carding an opening 71, leaving JT at level par.
