CJ Cup Odds: Collin Morikawa, Viktor Hovland Among Most Backed

The PGA Tour is back in Las Vegas this week. This time, it’s the CJ Cup that takes center stage in the golf world.

The CJ Cup is an interesting event. There isn’t a ton of name recognition with the tournament. Your average golf fan probably hasn’t heard of the CJ Cup, but it always brings out a great field full of the world’s best golfers, which leads to interesting betting when it comes to CJ Cup odds.

This year’s event is no different. Guys like Dustin Johnson, Collin Morikawa, Xander Schauffele and Jordan Spieth find themselves atop the CJ Cup odds board. And, it’s clear that the betting public has their eyes on one golfer in particular.

Who is the most bet golfer this week when it comes to CJ Cup odds? Check out below to see the top 5 in the field.

CJ Cup Odds: Top 5 Most Backed Golfers

1. Collin Morikawa – 13.49% of bets

It’s not exactly a shock to see Collin Morikawa atop the CJ Cup odds betting list. It’s not a shock to see him as the most backed golfer in any field anymore. Morikawa came into last year as a young, up-and-coming golfer with a ton of promise. But, now he’s cemented himself as one of the five best golfers on the planet.

Morikawa, currently ranked No. 3 in the world, has the best approach game on Tour and uses it to make life easy. Last season, Morikawa finished 12th in the CJ Cup. He shot a 65 in Round 2, but a 71 on Saturday and a Sunday 73 saw him drop off the top of the leaderboard.

It’s easy to see why CJ Cup betting is filled with Collin Morikawa tickets.

2. Marc Leishman – 4.97% of bets

The second name on this list isn’t one of the top-5 golfers in the world, like Collin Morikawa. And, he didn’t put up a top-15 showing in the CJ Cup last year. Still, among all the top golfers in this year’s field, the second most bet on CJ Cup odds belong to Australian Marc Leishman.

Leishman is a great golfer in his own right. He’s has a good approach game and is even better with his putter, but it’s a bit of a shock to see him here with some of the best golfers in the world at the CJ Cup.

At +3000, Leishman is the ninth favorite to win the CJ Cup. It looks like bettors are taking the juice on him and expecting a great weekend.

3. Rory McIlroy – 4.55% of bets

Back to names you expect to see at the top of the CJ Cup betting list. Rory McIlroy finished last season 14th in FeEx Cup standings and is the 14th ranked golfer in the world. He is no longer one of the best each week, but when he’s playing well he’s as good as any golfer on Tour.

At last season’s CJ Cup, McIlroy finished T21. But, this time around his +2000 odds make him the fifth favorite in the field, just behind Justin Thomas. McIlroy will be looking to build on a solid season last year which saw him win the Wells Fargo Championship and place fourth at the BMW Championship. This is McIlroy’s first event of the 2022 season.

4. Viktor Hovland – 3.98% of bets

Like Morikawa, another young star makes an appearance on the CJ Cup odds list when it comes to most backed golfers this weekend. Viktor Hovland has quickly become one of the best players in the world, and bettors are lining up to back him at +2700 odds. To me, this is a much better bet than McIlroy, who is shorter than Hovland.

Hovland put up some insane numbers on Tour last season. In strokes gained, he was 8th off the tee, 15th approach to green, 8th tee to green and 9th in total strokes gained. Any way you look at it, Viktor Hovland is one of the best golfers on the PGA Tour, so it’s no wonder we see him here.

5. Dustin Johnson – 3.69% of bets

The final golfer on this list isn’t just ranked No. 2 in the world, he’s also the favorite when it comes to the latest CJ Cup odds. Dustin Johnson, at +1200, has the shortest odds of any golfer in the field at the CJ Cup and is backed by 3.69% of all bets.

Johnson was a little disappointing last season, at least by his lofty expectations, but I fully expect him to be back as one of the 3 best golfers on the PGA Tour this season. This is his first appearance of the 2022 season.
